I find this to be very sage advice. Reading about Bradbury's writing techniques is very interesting.

This book is scarier than I remembered. I'd completely forgotten that in my freshman year of college I wrote a paper about how The Stand and a few other Stephen King books should be considered part of the literary canon. I keep coming across notes I wrote to myself ten years ago about symbolism and stuff.
Did you guys see who won the Nobel Prize in literature? What do you think?
Went to Powell's this weekend and discovered a signed first ed of Midnight Sun. Yes!! It looks so good next to my signed first ed of Blood on Snow.
September reading stats! A Little Life remains my best book of the year.
August reading stats
The Windup Girl is my absolute favorite sci fi novel ever. Do you guys have any recommendations for similar books? I'm looking for character driven sci fi that has more of a focus on the characters' inner lives.
Roxane Gay makes an excellent point about comedians telling rape jokes.
Is it weird that my #favfemalecharacter is Dagny Taggart? This book had a zillion problems but she is such an unapologetic badass.
I put all the books I want to read on little slips of paper so I can draw one at random when I need a new book. It took forever but now there's no more agonizing over what to read next!
There were a lot of interesting ideas to think about in this book, and some beautiful passages, but overall it was too slow and meandering for my taste. It was a thoughtful meditation on religion, so spiritually minded people might find it more interesting than I did.
Picked this up on the recommendation of someone from here. So far I'm loving it.
Family book club. My turn to pick!
July reading stats. I've been busy this month and haven't gotten nearly as much reading as I'd like to.
All the stars! A fictional account of the WTO protests in Seattle. Both police and protesters are portrayed with unflinching intimacy and honesty. A beautiful ending. Prose as vivid and rhythmic the beating of a heart and the flow of blood.
Beautiful quote from Your Heart Is a Muscle The Size of a Fist. It's about a protest in Seattle gone wrong, from the perspective of police and protesters both. Very eye opening.
Just about to start Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. I don't know anything about it. My mom picked it for our mother-daughter book club. These are the dogs that will be trying to climb into her lap while she reads.
This book is amazing. I keep taking pictures of whole pages to go back and ponder later.
I've gotten most of the way through this book and am not all that engaged with it. This has happened with a couple of King books now. I idolized him and loved his books as a teenager. Makes me wonder...has he changed or have I?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ hearts instead of stars because this book broke mine in the best way. To say too much about it would be to ruin it, but I will say it's beautiful and moving.
More Happy Than Not. This is turning out to be a beautiful book.
Beachside reading, though it'll be too dark pretty soon. Picked this up at a little indie bookstore by the sea. So far it's amazing.
Does anyone else get really happy when you post how much you love a book and someone adds it to their stack? Like now my beloved book will get read again!! ❤️❤️❤️
This book was amazing. The concept was really unique and deftly executed. Four different versions of London exist in parallel, each with more magic than the last. Kell, a powerful magician, and Lila, a scrappy thief, must save their worlds from destruction. A fast read and *so* much fun!
June reading stats.
A beautiful moment from this beautiful book about a queer young man growing up in the South Bronx.
Does anyone else tweet at their favorite authors and then get unreasonably excited when they tweet back?
From A Darker Shade of Magic which so far is enthralling. Loving it!
Pure fantasy. Woman goes to Paris for a summer and has lots of hot sex. I wouldn't mind it in real life but in a book the lack of conflict gets a bit tedious. Still enjoyable, though!
The most memorable Dexter quote.
We do not conceive of sudden, radical, irrational change as built into the very fabric of existence. Yet it is. -Malcolm (chaos theory mathematician)
Almost done with this book! It's got a lot of interesting science.
Finished this memoir in less than 24 hours. It tells the story of a gay kid growing up in an evangelical family and how he struggled to balance his love for his family with his identity and beliefs. It's humorous, heartfelt, and full of compassion.
Family book club! This is my 15yo brother's pick. He's really into science so I think he'll like it. I read it years ago but I'm looking forward to reading it again.
Beautiful, haunting setting--far above the Arctic Circle where the sun never sets. Ulf, on the run from a notorious Oslo drug lord, hopes it will be a good place to hide. This is so much more than just a thriller, as it ruminates on questions of love, family, and redemption.
From Neuromancer.
This book is AMAZING!! Halfway through. Almost as good as Blood on Snow.
