A Frightful Harvest
A Frightful Harvest | Anthony Uriati
1 post
Thirteen-year-old Billy Hargrove is desperate to help his mother out of a financial jam. His father’s suicide when Billy was only 8 has left Melissa Hargrove living paycheck to paycheck, working a dead-end job as a waitress at the Tiki Hut, doing her best to raise Billy on her own. But the unpaid bills keep piling up on her bureau and there is no solution in sight. So, when Billy spots an ad on the local supermarket’s bulletin board for a young man to help an old woman with her garden over the summer, he jumps at the chance to earn a little extra cash. And when the old woman offers to pay him one-hundred dollars a week and a five-hundred-dollar bonus at the end of the summer – an enormous sum of money for a young boy in 1983 Pennsylvania – Billy can hardly contain his excitement. Little does he know that the old woman is no woman at all, but an ancient force of evil bent on wreaking havoc on the small town of Pale Creek, PA.
Her garden – a vile patch of land on the outskirts of town as big as a football field – is no ordinary garden. Its soil is corrupt. Its produce, fed by the blood and suffering of her victims, poison to all who consume it. And Ms. Evie’s recipes have already begun to sow chaos in town. Soon, Billy and his mother will come under the old woman’s spell, compelled to do her bidding, and this year’s bounty – Ms. Evie’s five-hundredth harvest – will be her most evil yet. Only Billy and his friends, along with the help of a Sheriff who is quickly coming to believe the unbelievable, can stop her. If it isn’t already too late…
