The Collectors
The Collectors: A His Dark Materials Story | Philip Pullman
9 posts | 20 read | 8 to read
A brand-new e-short, set in the world of Philip Pullmans beloved and bestselling The Golden Compass In this darkly delicious sliver of a tale, Philip Pullman offers a glimpse of the enigmatic girl who will become the sinister Mrs. Coulter. On a cold winter's night, two art collectors are settled before a fire in the Senior Common Room of a college in Oxford, discussing the unusual pieces one has recently added to his collection. What the two men don't know is that the portrait of a striking young woman and the bronze sculpture of a fearsome monkey are connected in mysterious ways. How could they imagine that they are about to be caught in the cross-fire of a story which has traveled time . . . and worlds. Published in 50 countries with over 22 million copies sold, The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass are renowned for their engrossing storytelling and epic scope. This new short tale will delight the many fans eager for any new glimpse into the world of His Dark Materials.

Another fun visit into the world of #HisDarkMaterials and #BookofDust with an interesting short story. In some ways I feel like this opens the opportunity to expand even more on the world and I'm not sure what will happen in the final installment of BoD. Also still waiting to see when BoD3 is going to be released! Next up in the canonical read-through, “Serpentine“, being delivered to my local library soon!

I‘ve read this little tale a few times before. This time I feel I understood it more. It‘s a snapshot giving a glimpse of Mrs Coulter without her even appearing.

I loved the tone and atmosphere it managed to convey. It works more effectively in physical form than when it was released as an ebook years ago.

I‘m not sure newcomers to the HDM world will find much in this, but lovers of the previous novels will find The Collectors quite charming.

Seems too harsh to say I didn't like this short story. The truth of it is that I don't have any thoughts about it either way. I read it and meh. I was hoping I'd gain some insight into Mrs Coulter, and that I would also get a nice glimpse of that universe I love. But I got neither. I got two dudes discussing Mrs Coulter in our world. Could've gone without it. Crazy that I had to be on my library's wait list forever to finally get to read it.

Quick little read. It was really good. I‘m not entirely sure how what happened, happened. It was really good, though. I‘m definitely read the rest of this series now. Obviously it was intended to be read after the trilogy, even though it‘s a prequel. Still, I really enjoyed it. #PhilipPullman #HisDarkMaterials #TheCollectors #BannedBooksWeek #FreeToRead

The prequel to The Golden Compass. Getting into my #BannedBooksWeek reading a little late.
