I Love My Hair is a RF story of a young African American girl who loves her hair and I love that because obviously her hair is different and hard to deal with but she grows into loving it because she saw it as a blessing. This would teach students about self love and acceptance and would do well as a RA book. UDL 9.3 and ESOL strategy 3 encourage self awareness & (positive thinking) would be a great strategy for this book. #UCFLAE3414SP20

SequoiaC123 I love all of the diversity/self-acceptance themed books that my peers are reading including this one! I can totally relate to not liking my hair when I was younger, but as I saw other black women loving their kinks and coils, I learned to love mine too! This would be a great addition to a classroom library especially for the purpose of representation and self-reflection! 5y
DrSpalding Like sequoia said, I love the book selections you have made. These books will be windows and mirrors for students in your future classroom. 5y

I would definitely use this as a diversity lesson book because then children will all remember that no matter what they are all unique and wonderful

Published in 1998- this book is all about the differences in people‘s appearances that make them special no matter what. It‘s about self love and acceptance for who you are. No matter what people say everyone is beautiful in their own way and this book encompasses that. This book is a realistic telling of a fictional story that most children will be able to identify with

I Love My Hair by Natasha Tarpley was adorable. It was about a story of a young African American who has African American hair and she loves it. And I love that because obviously it is different and hard to deal with but she grows into loving it because she saw it as a blessing. It was a way for her to stand up for what she believed in and to let the world know she is proud of who she was and where she came from. Such a cute read. I loved it!

I'm grateful for a story that celebrates beautiful hair that doesn't look like a Disney princess or Barbie.
Aside from that it's also a sweet story between a mother and daughter.

Inked.and.nerdy I have always said that Disney gives me unrealistic expectations for hair lol. I think you're right that it's good to have a story to not only acknowledge REAL hair but embrace and celebrate it. 8y
QueenAnne 💪🏼everyone should love their hair! And like @Inked.and.nerdy said, disney gives unrealistic expectations Period! Never seen dresses, waistlines, tiny hands and those handsome princes in my life! (Seriously, our king 🇳🇱 NOT so easy on the eyes 😝) 8y
BookInMyHands @Inked.and.nerdy and @QueenAnne Yes, all of that! 8y
