I‘ve had this book sitting on my shelf for ages, so finally decided to dive in. The story definitely went places I wasn‘t expecting and was, frankly, shocking at times. That said, the book is almost entirely dialogue that rips along with a twist at the end. Fair warning, the main character is misogynist and vile and his dialogue is too. It wasn‘t a perfect book, so a low pick. #europacollective

Amelie Nothomb is a bad, bad girl. And an evil author. And a very dark sense of humour. This book is one of the most venomous I've read by her so far. Means - I love it. I've had so much fun observing how the characters interact with each other, how they both try to drag the other down. Do they care about what the reader thinks about them? Not all. Does Nothomb care? Nope. And that's what makes her so special.

This book made me laugh, gag in disgust, and reflect... there is some messed-up stuff in here, but it‘s such a work of art, I think it almost works?

Written entirely in dialogue and is a fast read that will leave you thinking. I read it in its original French but there are some good translations on Amazon!

Loved this! A great companion to Nell Zink's The Wallcreeper, which I read earlier this summer. Absurd, obscene, and so funny that I laughed out loud, even while reading in French. Definitely would recommend this to those who enjoy pointed wit with a side of gory.
