The Hunger Games | Suzanne Collins

Alright, game on! I am making a belated start to @jenniferw88 ‘s #MarchMunchies. I am determined to have a serious go at this challenge given that food and books are two of my most favorite things 📚🍰😋😂.

Day 1 was #BakedAlaska. Although it‘s not specifically named I reckon this dessert in The Hunger Games has got to be #BakedAlaska, don‘t you?

Not actually #BakedAlaska but it‘s Alaska nonetheless. In fact it was pretty cold there for the colonel and his crew. That part of the story was interesting, but I found his wife‘s sections even more compelling. #MarchMunchies

#MarchMunchies #BakedAlaska Two books based in or around Alaska that I want to read.

BookishMe The Snow Child was amazing. Slow but rich in details 8y
Andrew65 @BookishMe I have heard great things about it which is why I want to read it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts @BookishMe 👍 8y

#MarchMunchies #BakedAlaska Looking forward to a month of foodie prompts from @jenniferw88 😋In Molly Harper's fun 'Naked Werewolf' series, Mo, the MC of the first book moves to tiny Gundy, Alaska & ends up baking desserts for the Blue Glacier saloon. I don't think Baked Alaska was on the menu but baking in Alaska works well for the prompt. I've never made Baked Alaska or even eaten it for that matter, but I like the looks of the 'flambe' one.👍🔥

LibrarianRyan These books are so fun. 8y
DebinHawaii @LibrarianRyan They are! She never fails to make me snort-laugh. 🤣👍 8y
LibrarianRyan @DebinHawaii agreed. I started with he vampire series. I never got past book one of werewolf but that has more to do with time. I was thinking about listening to some. 8y
DebinHawaii @LibrarianRyan Her Jane Jameson & the related Half-Moon Hollow series are my favorites, but this series is good too. I have recently tried some of the audio books of her newer books & have enjoyed them. 8y

Looking for Alaska | John Green
post image

I have never been a fan of John Green. He has only one book I like but I try. Looking for #alaska was not my cup of teas. I thought it was boring and overrated. I figured most of the people who were giving it rave reviews and Printz honors must have been #baked. Will I stop reading @johngreen probably not. But for me it's like pulling teeth to get through one of his novels.

#bakedalaska #marchmunchies @jenniferw88

Quasifesto I must admit, I saw one of his YouTube videos years ago and thought he was a tremendous d-bag. I can‘t bring myself to read any of his books. 8y
LibrarianRyan @Quasifesto I so AGREE. I read them because all the teens I worked with read them. The only one I ever liked is tagged. And I mainly liked it because it reminded me of my cousin Richard. Plus I'm a geek who loves math. 8y

KrystleTheBookSlayer I read two John Green books and honestly that's enough for a lifetime for me! Just not my thing! 8y
LibrarianRyan @KrystleTheBookSlayer yeahhh. I think I have read 3. Maybe 4. Nope. However now that I am getting better at listening to audiobooks I might try that. What young girls see in these books ... 8y
DebinHawaii Very clever! 😆 I have not read any of his books. (Although I did see the movies of The Fault in Our Stars & Paper Towns.) 8y
TheEndless May I ask (and I‘m really not looking for an argument here!): What‘s Your beef with John Green? 7y
LibrarianRyan @TheEndless you certainly can. First off I think others have covered the same topics and better. Over hyped but I like that he keeps teens reading. Secondly I met him in person at a YA lit event in Chicago and he was flippant and mean and nasty. We asked if he could speak up because he couldn't be heard over the back unit. He told me to get younger ears. We had taken a teen from our library to see him and he wasn't any nice to her. 7y
