The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games | Suzanne Collins
First in the ground-breaking HUNGER GAMES trilogy. Set in a dark vision of the near future, a terrifying reality TV show is taking place. Twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live event called The Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed. When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her younger sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

I am fangirling so hard right now. 😍 Do you guys think this one will be as good as the others?

Branwen 🤤😲😍 It already looks amazing! 2w
8little_paws is this a sequel? Prequel? different characters or same? 2w
Rachel.Rencher @8little_paws Prequel... it's like 65 or 75 years before the hunger games where we meet Katniss, so it'll be different characters. 2w

8little_paws @rachel.rencher cool thanks for the info! 2w
Buechersuechtling Thank you for sharing the revealed cover. I‘m sure @ReadingOverSleeping will be interested, too. 🙂 2w
Buechersuechtling @Rachel.Rencher But no, honestly, I can‘t imagine that this will be as captivating as the trilogy was for me. As far as I read there shall be a moral component to it like “How do we want to live? Who are we and what do we consider necessary to survive?” but at the moment I really can‘t see how this can lead to an overall enthralling story when it‘s – again – mainly set in a Hunger-Games-Arena … 🤷🏽‍♀️ 2w
GingerAntics I enjoyed the trilogy, so I‘ll probably give it a shot. 2w
ReadingOverSleeping @Buechersuechtling thank you!! ❤️❤️ 2w
ReadingOverSleeping @Buechersuechtling I agree with this but I'll definitely read it regardless lol! 2w

Ummm excuse me?!

Buechersuechtling Yeah, I feel the same. I mean, what do they mean❓ I did a quick research and it seems there will be a fourth volume. No sequel but a prequel to the “Hunger Games”. The story shall be set 64 years before the plot so far and tell about the “Dark Era” – a period of an unsuccessful rebellion in Panem. (Which I don‘t remember to have read about in the trilogy. Did I just forget❓🤔) But anyway, thanks a lot for your post. 2w
cherinium I vaguely remember seeing something about that a while ago. Pretty sure it's supposed to be a prequel. 2w

A prequel to the triology was announced andirons not sure how I feel about this since it‘s been years from when the last book was written and when the last movie was released.

Maybe I am feeling this way cause I‘m reading The Testaments now and if you‘ve read The Testaments maybe you know what I‘m talking about.

What do you feel about this?

pilardib I'm curious to say the least. I really enjoyed the first and second books of the trilogy. And I also love prequels so... let's see :P 2w
cherinium I know what you mean about The Testaments. I felt like it ruined the scary, mysterious vibe of Offred's story by answering too many questions. I think I'm more ok with this since it's a prequel, though. (Also, it's been many years since this world was visited on screen.) There's something different about that than a sequel that wasn't needed clearly written just to profit off the success of a tv show. 2w
That-Bookish-Hiker @cherinium you make some good points and have changed my mind. This is what I love about litsy! I was on the fence because I was thinking “it‘s been so long!” But you make such an excellent point when you say it has been years since the movie so this doesn‘t feel like a new release just for profits. 2w
That-Bookish-Hiker @pilardib let‘s hope it‘s good! 🤞🏼 2w
cherinium @That-Bookish-Hiker Well, changing your mind was not my intention, but I agree that Litsy is a great platform for us to express our differing opinions. And if it does result in changed minds, there's nothing wrong with that! Having a mind open to change is so rare these days. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if this new glimpse into Panem is worthwhile! 💕 2w

Very, very late on this bandwagon. However, the first book wasn‘t too bad. It isn‘t my typical read however, but I really liked it. I‘ve just got the other two to read now and I‘m hoping they‘re just as good. Really surprised that I found this so entertaining!

My impressions of the book were definitely coloured by the film and, in an unexpected plot twist, I actually thought the film was better. The film had a subtlety that you just can‘t get when the teenage protagonist is spoon-feeding to you her every supposition. I probably wouldn‘t read The Hunger Games again but I‘d happily give my copy to a 13-year-old cousin. Full review here: http://keepingupwiththepenguins.com/the-hunger-games-suzanne-collins/

A perfect example telling you that a book is always better than the movie. This book is definitely worth reading. Teenagers and adults enjoy every inch of it. Usually, I need to read a minimum of 50-60 pages of a book to hold onto it for long. But, this book keeps you intrigued from the beginning itself. I was able to get this book done in just 3 days. You can't keep it aside once you start it. It's a brilliant start for the trilogy!

3,5 stars. Was never supposed to read this book because you can‘t really sell me anything with “sci-fi and dystopia”. It was better than I expected, but I will not jump on the hype train. You pretty much know the outcome of the story. You only get to really know a few characters. I‘m sure it works for YA readers, but it lacked something essential, if you ask me. Flows quite well, an easy read. I enjoyed the audio version.

The Hunger Games, a SF trilogy, is a series of novels written by Suzanne Collins. These books are so interesting and allow students to become immersed in a world they could only have imagined. The Hunger Games is a great story that facilitates a lot of great lessons. I think this book would be best read as IR. (Cont.) #ucflae3414su19

I think I‘ve moved on from Panem... and we are close enough to living in an actual dystopian future that I‘m not finding the genre particularly appealing 😐 THOUGHTS?

Did everyone see? How do we feel?

jpmcwisemorgan Kind of meh. It‘s Mags story so we kind of know what to expect. It also feels like it‘s so long after the books/movies that it‘s just for attention/money rather than still having a story to tell. I get kind of cynical about this sort of thing though. 4mo
Bklover Prequels always disturb me for some reason. It‘s like knowing the ending already. Hope this is a good one! 4mo
CharissaWeaksAuthor @jpmcwisemorgan @BKlover I did wonder “why now?” when it‘s a decade later, but I also have a writer brain and know crazier things have happened. I‘m not sure I‘m interested in the story line yet, but we shall see, I suppose. 4mo
See All 21 Comments
Ashley_Nicoletto I feel like I would read Suzanne Collins shopping list so I‘m in. 🤣 4mo
jpmcwisemorgan I just read a thread on Twitter that points out if this book does well it could generate interest in more YA dystopian because it‘s been long enough that it‘s a new generation of readers. And this is almost definitely a movie so it‘s going to bring a lot of attention to YA and possibly MG, which is good for a lot of people. So if you‘re writing YA or dystopian, or YA dystopian, there might be a larger market for you very soon. 4mo
TheBookDream I feel like it should be a current events book, since it‘s billed as a Hunger Games prequel 4mo
CharissaWeaksAuthor @Ashley_Nicoletto 😂 I was all in when the books came out, so I understand. I‘m totally curious but I think time has dampened my excitement. 4mo
CharissaWeaksAuthor @jpmcwisemorgan I love dystopian so I hope that happens. 4mo
OrangeMooseReads I was hoping that it would go back to before the games began but I‘m still interested in reading it. 4mo
MoonWitch94 I only want it if it can seamlessly fit into the world of Panem & makes sense. Otherwise, no thanks. 4mo
LibrarianRyan I'm excited. I am a major fan of the books (movies not so much) . I find it interestig that she is going back 64 years, which would be 10 years of hunger games, instead of to the civil war that started it. But I cant wait to read it. 4mo
jpmcwisemorgan @LibrarianRyan Yes, I liked the books better. I don‘t know if I‘d want a book about the cause, starting toward the beginning seems ok but I don‘t know if it‘s going to work for a character we already met. Unless maybe we find out she was part of some sort of resistance for all the years leading up to Katniss. That could be interesting. 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m actually an outlier here... I‘m pretty excited! The fact that she waited years to write a prequel, to me at least, means she thought of a great story that she needed to tell... instead of just pressured to write something in the same world ASAP. Unlike some people who are off writing prequels before they finish their main series (George R.R. Martin) sorry I‘m still annoyed at him for that... that felt like a 💰 move to sell another series. 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ll also say, I‘m excited to learn its Mags... she was a great character who had no voice in the original story... so to give her a voice now appeals to me. I‘m more interested now that it‘s her, than say Hamish‘s story or the same story from Gale‘s POV. To me that means it‘s something completely new and not a rehash of one of the stories we already know. 4mo
LibrarianRyan @jpmcwisemorgan But do you think we will actually see any of the characters we already know? 64 years is a big difference. Maybe President Snow as a teenager, but most of the characters in the original books are not that old. 4mo
LibrarianRyan @jpmcwisemorgan Okay, I hadn't read the other entry that the book was about Mags. Now that I know that, hummmmmm 4mo
LibrarianRyan @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes, I agree. and to go back so far, a lot can change in 64 years. The Hunger Games may look completely different then to how they did during the original series timeline. 4mo
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @LibrarianRyan I know, I hadn‘t heard that either until I saw it in the comments....I hope that intel is good, that‘s interesting. 4mo
jpmcwisemorgan @LibrarianRyan I saw elsewhere it‘s about Mags but maybe it‘s not. It does have to do with a failed rebellion. 4mo
enidkeaner I enjoyed the series but all I can think is: why and why now? 4mo
