pickI'm a little late on this, but just had to say -- this book was fantastic!! A five-star read for sure (and I almost never give five stars). Funny and frustrating, it reminded me a little of reading Paul Beatty's satire. I'm not sure how I've managed to not read Percival Everett before, but I definitely need to remedy that! #bookershortlist

pickWow. Sweeping, great characters, great ideas. Just wow. I did not love the ending, but each character gets their own end. Some are hopeful, some not so much. This was my first by Powers, I will definitely have to read more of his work. #bookershortlist #bookerlonglist
so-soThis book was OK, but I don‘t know why it was long- or short-listed for the Booker Prize. The story is narrated by Romy Hall, serving a life sentence for murder. She reminisces about her wild childhood in SF, working at The Mars Room, and her son. She describes life in prison and the people there. Best parts for me were the descriptions of places in CA despite errors. I also did not love The Flamethrowers, it too was meh. #bookershortlist
