“When Mama tucks me in at night, her eyes tell me I'm a miracle.“
Although I do not relate to this book. I have seen people get made fun of their cultures and effect them first hand. I do not think its ever okay to make fun of someone for their identity, but we need to be able to celebrate people.
This is a book about celebrating culture. When a little girl does not feel good about her aisian eyes she learns to appreciate them because she has “Eyes that kiss in the corner“
Quarterly appointment with my Retinal specialist today, which is practically an all day thing due to travel, needing to have lunch so I don‘t starve, and DC traffic.
The vision in my left eye is as above, due to a retinal tear - I lost my reading spot in that eye as well, so I can only read with my right eye.
The good news is that both eyes are stable right now, and I can relax for another four months. Yay!
#JanuaryJazz Day 12: #NationalTeaDay reminded me of this book with lovely children being described as having “Eyes That Glow Like Warm Tea.” Instead of the usual expected derogatory remarks, this book offers an alternative way of perceiving by providing a description that is not only poetic, but also culturally apt.
