It was interesting reading this just after People of Abandoned Character, and seeing a nonfiction version of the victims I just read of in fiction.

It‘s disheartening to know that society made such stark assumptions about all five of these women based only on the facts that they had suffered various hardships and were divorced/ separated/ otherwise on their own and very down on their luck. (Also I‘m not surprised- has the view of ⬇️

Soubhiville the unhoused changed that much? I don‘t think so, for the most part. Unfortunately.) 2y
Soubhiville So glad to have finally read this! #fictionnonfictionpairings with 2y
Soubhiville And first for this year‘s #NonfictionNovember 2y
Librarybelle I loved this one and applaud Rubenhold for bringing the women‘s stories to life. It‘s one I constantly recommend. 2y
thegreensofa I am half way through The Five, you have inspired me to pick it up again! 🙂. And omgoodness your gorgeous cat! 🫶😍 2y

In keeping with my Michelangelo theme, I chose these two books for #fictionnonfictionpairings. The first book is a novel of the artist's life and work and the second is his autobiography. I also thought that this would be a good pick for the #thisshouldbeamovie prompt. But I looked it up and a movie was already made! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Agony_and_the_Ecstasy_(film) #day9 #day10 #seasonsreadings2016

charl08 The book is better though! 8y
PurpleyPumpkin @charl08 😉Isn't that often the case? I think it's just too difficult to translate all of the details to the big screen. 8y

#fictionnonfictionpairings #seasonsreadings2016 Huxley believed "we are in a race between education & disaster, and he wrote continuously about the necessity of our understanding the politics & epistemology of media. For in the end, he was trying to tell us that what afflicted the people in Brave New World was not that they were laughing instead of thinking, but that they did not know what they were laughing about & why they had stopped thinking"

saresmoore I love both of these so much. 8y

For yesterday's photo challenge :)
Jorge Ibargüengoitia was a great satirist with a dark sense of humor.
I was going to post another pairing but I can't find one of the books ?

I read all of Beverly Cleary as a kid. I discovered her memoir much later as an adult and fell in love with her all over again.
#seasonsreadings2016 @RealLifeReading

BookInMyHands I live in Yamhill County- just down the road from Yamhill and McMinnville! We had big celebrations around here last year when Cleary turned 100. Did you see the PBS special on her? It was great and my kids liked it too. I love both these stories, good pairing! 8y
angrylilasian @BookInMyHands I did not see the PBS special! I'll have to look for it! I can't wait for my kids to read her books. 8y
Arbol There was a book published this year on walking the neighborhood where her books are set. Began as a kickstarter. It's really great, my only criticism is that the print quality is poor which doesn't help the old b & w pictures. But it IS a delightful excursion. I'll post a pics of the sculpture garden next time I'm there. 8y
angrylilasian @Arbol I love that! And I love Portland. I've only visited once but I was so happy because all I did was eat, drink coffee, and visit bookstores. 😄 8y

When I saw #fictionnonfictionpairings the Sherlock Holmes stories and The Remedy were what popped into my head, but the latter is mostly about Robert Koch and Tuberculosis. However, I picked the book up because of the mention of Arthur Conan Doyle, and I learned a bit more about Doyle, Koch, Tuberculosis, the history of medical practice and research....Worth a read, although I wish it'd been a bit shorter or less repetitive. #seasonsreadings2016
