This Australian graphic novel is FANTASTIC. A girl is dropped off for a holiday programme in an abandoned shopping centre near the site of a mysterious explosion. But there is something more going on. A bit Kaiju Preservation Society, a touch Aliens, even a wee bit E.T. And a lovely friendship story. Great art too.
Not gonna lie, I was worried there for a while! This book kept the tension, but it was also chock full of tender moments, embracing diversity, potential, and protective power. The final race had me cheering, the ending had me happy crying. The magic elements were wound so effortlessly into the story the author and artist wanted to tell. Highly recommend. Do NOT miss the scrap book moments at the end, tucked after the important creator's notes.
Pretty sure Team Enbious is a play on Enby.
Non Binary team of magic broom flying racers. I LOVE. 😍
In this fabulous graphic memoir, Pedro Martín recounts the time when he was 12 and his entire family—including 8 siblings—travelled in a motorhome from California to the Mexican state of Jalisco in order to bring his grandfather home to live with them. Adventures, misadventures, and poignant scenes too. I loved it. #MiddleGrade #comics for all ages.
I kept seeing this book series, so I had to find out why everyone is so obsessed with it. I can see why kids would love it, it matches their type of humor. I was entertained, but I only thought it was okay, nothing I would particularly seek out. But it seems like it would be great for a lot of kids, especially the reluctant readers.
