Sheryl63 That was my first Stephen King book. This is funny; I got arrested in 1986 for not returning the ”The Stand” which I'd checked out back in the late 70‘s. I was an officer in another city in the same county! I had half of my uniform on; I got to hang out other prisoners until my mom came to pay $25 to bail me out. They thought it was so funny. I was speeding, another officer drove my car to the station. I was livid, he loved my Mustang GT. 7y
YouReadMyEyes @Sheryl63 Oh my gosh, now that‘s one for the books! I think you‘ve earned status as a King super fan after going through all that! 7y
Sheryl63 Too funny! They got sued and dropped that law a few years later and dropped the law. It's less than a traffic warrant. I had the money, but they weren't going to let me out until I was bailed out. I had just an undershirt with my uniform pants, boots. We were not allowed to wear our uniform off duty. I would take my top off and drive to the barn feed my horse and get home. I felt naked setting there, waiting for my poor mom. She let them have it. 7y

Sheryl63 I had to go to work the next day and tell my Sgt. what happened. It took forever to live that down, my Sgt announced it at roll call, he said the had an all points on me an the local libraries. I thought i was going to die, I took a lot of ribbing is a small female, the guys teased me about everything. My mom thought i was playing a trick on her. When I called her I said do not pass go, go directly to jail and pay $25 dollars. She was like what? 7y
Sheryl63 She was coming from far N. Dallas and she must have broken the sound barrier. I did get a speeding ticket because I was speeding, I wanted to shower so and i was itchy and hot plus i hated Jails. I avoided them at all costs when i was working. I would always meet the Jailers at the Sallyport and hand over my prisoner. Then go upstairs to process them. Our squad cars were pretty bad too. It was the officers responsibility to clean them at the end 7y
Sheryl63 Of shift, they could be so nasty you‘d open the door and gage. I have s strong stomach but some of the officers were just as nasty as the prisoners. We had some that never took a bath, one officer didn‘t believe in deodorant he said it caused cancer. When we assigned cars the next shift everyone moaned when we got a certain number. They would eat and leave their trash all over. We always had someone get sick in the back, plus pee and other things. 7y
YouReadMyEyes @Sheryl63 That sounds horrifying! 7y
Sheryl63 It was an experience that I'm glad I stuck it out and got moved up to CID, which was my dream, was in a car accident and retiree in 2005. That was the hard part. I'd still be working, but I was in car accident on the job and they discovered I had Lupus. Which, I had only heard about but it was enough to male retire. I didn't bounce back as quickly after the accident. 7y
