If only Alexis Coe could write all the presidential biographies, the #USPresidents challenge would be a breeze! I tend to be very cautious about biographies because so many of them are exhaustingly detailed and give little sense for the personality of the subject. Not Coe's biography of GW! She does an excellent job of highlighting the events that illuminate his personality without getting readers lost in the weeds.

@Amiable @TEArificbooks

ImperfectCJ And yes, I screwed up and started a month early. Calendars are confusing. 6d
Amiable Yay for starting us off (early)! 😀 We‘re going to have to agree to disagree about this book, though. I hated it. It was way too surface-level for me. I much preferred Ron Chernow‘s “Washington: A Life.” All 900+ pages of it. 🙂 6d
ImperfectCJ @Amiable I'm cool with a difference of opinion. :-) I'm interested in the presidents more for how they fit into the context of their time than for a detailed recounting of their lives, so I don't mind a little surface-level. (I'm also a reluctant biography reader...the only one I've really loved is Savage Beauty by Nancy Mitford.) 6d

Amiable @ImperfectCJ I‘ve heard of that bio but never read it. I‘ll have to take a look! 6d
TEArificbooks I‘m glad you got an early start. I picked this book too, and glad you like it. Makes me want to read it more. I started reading #naturalitsy early and reading the February book (already read January). 6d
ImperfectCJ @TEArificbooks I love to read from lists, but I'm also contrary enough that I sometimes just want to read a book when I want to read it. I'm all over the place with #losersclub, always at least two months behind. I'm perfectly on time with my Agatha Christie reads, though, so for now, at least, I have one challenge behind, one ahead, and one just right. :-) 6d

The Long Walk | Stephen King

‘Only death can keep you from the finish line—in the ultimate competition of the all-too-near future...‘

Finished this in June.

A gruesome race where only one can cross the finish line. This was my third time reading this. Good story. Shocking at times.

I first read this around the time I turned 10, so not only has it been a long time between readings, but the first time I read it I lacked much of the context necessary to understand what I was reading. Reading it nearly 40 years later, I think about this what I think about most King books: Really cool idea, should be shorter. Todd in the first half (not in the second half, fingers crossed), reminds me of several of the bros in power right now.

ImperfectCJ @BarkingMadRead I plan to read the rest of Different Seasons when my library hold comes in, this story just hit my Libby account first. #losersclub 4w

The Dead Zone | Stephen King

Johnny Smith is an ordinary young man. After four and a half years in a coma, Johnny Smith can now scan the minds, the pasts, and the futures of certain others through a single touch. It is a gift he does not want and a fate he cannot escape.

Finished in August for #LosersClub

This was a reread. Another favorite of mine.

Are any of yall fellow #LosersClub members watching Welcome to Derry??? I am thoroughly enjoying it so far.

It was one of the books that I read way too young for my brain to fathom what was going on, but oh how i loved it! And then fell in love with horror and all things #StephenKing.

Curious to get others optinons on this adapation.

#BookToScreen

Lands It‘s pretty gory even for King is what I heard. I haven‘t watched it yet. I‘ve watched a couple YouTube videos about it. I‘m waiting to see if Marge and Rich are really Richie‘s parents. 1mo
dabbe Matt's reading IT as I type this! I'll be reading it when he's done. 🧡🤡♥️ 1mo
ElizaMarie @dabbe Is Matt watching the show as well? 1mo

ElizaMarie @Lands Gory and disturbing yes. I am enjoying the horror of the show, its got the jump scares, the slow dread, the gore, just a lot of different aspects of horror all in one show. 1mo
BarkingMadRead Me!! It‘s so horror filled, I‘m loving it! 1mo
dabbe @ElizaMarie Nope. Where is is streaming? 1mo
ElizaMarie @dabbe Its on HBO 1mo
ElizaMarie @BarkingMadRead OOO me too! It's one of those shows where I was WTF to my husband, who is also thoroughly enjoying it! 1mo
dabbe @ElizaMarie Thanks! We'll check it out! 1mo
JessClark78 I am! The husband and I are watching it. We‘re loving it so far. So much more graphic than I was expecting. 1mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick That certainly was an opening scene! I'm enjoying it so far. I love that it's actually creepy and gross at times. So much horror tends to fall flat with me because I'm almost desensitized to most of it. I do much better with gore & body harm than say paranormal activity or exorcism-related scares. 1mo
