Christmas in Paris was our 13th/bonus and final book for the #IllSeeYouInParis book challenge. Light, quick, easy reading, a little whimsical, a bit romantic, actually kind of a rom com 😅 Can two failed weddings right before Christmas end with one fairy tale wedding? Yes, a bit of a fairy tale, whimsical and implausible, but still a light & entertaining read.

tpixie I‘m hoping to go to Paris this September. I‘m going to look into these! #Illseeyouinparis 2y

#IllSeeYouInParis Challenge... I have mixed feelings about Chasing Paris, overall I'd give it 3.5 stars. I've read so many Paris books in the historical fiction genre that it was nice to read one that was set in modern day although it did have brief visits to "Paris back in the day". I enjoyed the mystery and the intrigue in this book. I really liked the literary references and tie ins, and (cont in comments)...

TheHeartlandBookFairy and I mostly liked the ending. The characters lacked any serious development, the romantic relationships were juvenile at best, and there were some loose ends that were never fully tied up. Still, a pleasant break from the heavy subject of World War II Paris historical fiction. A quick, mostly light read. 3y

#IllSeeYouInParis Book Challenge Bonus Book forDecember. If you've been joining in throughout the year or if you're just coming in at the tail end of this challenge, Christmas in Christmas in Paris is a bonus book for December. It's in addition to our December book choice. I'm going to do my best to get through this one and Chasing Paris for December 😁📚

I love Kristen Harmel's books but, they can gut you! November's #IllSeeYouInParis book is well researched but at times I felt as though I was being "talked down to". I alternated reading and listening to an audio version. Audio can sometimes bring so much more life to a book & make it seem eveb more real. Ruby is an American married to a Frenchman living in occupied Paris during the war time. Her bravery & courage(cont in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy during this terrible and tragic time in history is nearly unthinkable. What she did, what she went through, almost unbelievable! The book opens with a scene protraying an elderly couple in current times and it's not till they return at the end of the book that you come to know who they are. The bulk of the book, which was a little slow going at 1st and possibly didn't need to be as long as what it was, takes place during the war. I found the last 20% of the book the most riveting but the ending itself felt really rushed after the sluggish start. I really enjoyed the historical aspects of this story, learning more about the resistance! As a romance, I felt it left a lot to be desired. If you're looking for a happily ever after ending, prepare yourself for heartbreak. Easily 4 stars for the historical fiction aspect for me. More like 3 stars for the romance.

#IllSeeYouInParis Book challenge, October book: The Paris secret is one of my favorite books from this challenge! Valerie leaves Paris as a three-year-old child, fleeing from the nazis and the nazi occupation, Valerie grows up living with an aunt in London. As a young woman, Valerie is determined to return to Paris to discover what really happened. Returning with a false name and under false circumstances, Valerie meets her (cont in comments)

TheHeartlandBookFairy grandfather and begins to unravel the secrets of her past. Much like the Nazi's holding prisoner's, the past and the secrets of their past hold Valerie and her grandfather prisoner. Will Valerie's deception drive Vincent Dupont, her grandfather, away or will discovering the truth set them all free from the bonds and atrocities of the past? I gasped and gritted my teeth. I was horrified. The atrocities that the nazis inflicted on everyone they felt were inferior to them was absolutely terrible but the atrocities they inflicted upon women and children puts (cont) 3y
TheHeartlandBookFairy them in a special category of evil. And yet, the book had lighthearted moments that made me smile, even laugh out loud a couple of times. And certainly the description of the beautigul Parisian bookshop was simply a bibliophile's dream. I'd love to live above that bookstore, to discover all its secrets, all of it's magical charm. This was a wonderful story told in 2 time frames, One on the brink of the 2nd World War, Vincent Dupont and his daughter. The other nearly 20 years later told through Duponts granddaughter Valerie. I loved how this story came together! How secrets divided this family and how the truth and how the truth brings them together. 3y
