Oh this was sweet.
I needed something light and whilst the subject matter seems full of sadness, it's actually really uplifting and has a sense of happiness and love.
A truly cute little story that offers a different perspective on death.

My Finland reading list for #foodandlit!
As usual, I enjoyed Paasilinna. Although this book is not my favourite, I got really emotional with the Christmas themed ending. The story is about a recently deceased man who learns how to be a ghost in the afterlife.👻

The Xenophobe's guide to Finland was a quick and fun read about some of the cultural particularities that are unique to this country.

I found this edition while scanning the shelves in an indie bookstore in Seattle. It was a quick read with a lot of familiar information and ideas—but EKR is always worth reading. I honestly can‘t get enough of books on these topics! The world needs more of them. Death Care and Death Education can be so different, if we allow it to be. I am never one to dismiss anyone‘s NDE story, but this one felt too religious for me. The word ‘God‘ was in almost every paragraph; a bible verse began nearly every chapter. It felt too Christian. I am aware that a NDE is different for everyone though there are many similarities, and the spectrum is wide. I am an atheist, I don‘t believe in deities; but I do believe there is a part of us that doesn‘t die, when our bodies die. I imagine ‘God‘⬇️

I enjoyed this book. I liked Liz, and I absolutely loved Betty. All of the dogs warmed my heart. The overall story was very fun and interesting. But there was something about the writing that made me feel frustrated. Idk what it was, but it just got under my skin.
I'm glad I read it. But don't plan to read anymore from her.

Death comes for us all, but what if death is not the end? This book is the result of what was learned during experiments conducted in the late 90s by a scientist at the University of Arizona. Five mediums agreed to participate and do readings for sitters they could not see and who could only respond with yes or no. The results were amazing and seem to affirm that human consciousness survives body death and they long to communicate with us.

Sometimes I like to read books I remember loving as a kid/teenager and see if they still hold up. I‘m enjoying this one the second time around!
