The Secret History | Donna Tartt

Pickpick

After not finishing The Goldfinch, I was encouraged by several people to not give up on Donna Tartt. I'm glad I listened. I realized that the reason I gave up on The Goldfinch (after reading 2/3 of it) was because I didn't like ANY of the characters, and therefore didn't care what happened to them. The characters in The Secret History were flawed & did some despicable things, but I liked (most of) them enough that I cared what happened. (cont)

mom2bugnbee This is not a whodunit, as the reader is told straight out at the beginning who murders who, but it is still a gripping page-turner. ⭐⭐⭐⭐/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 6y
Mdargusch I‘m glad you liked this book as much as I did! 6y
KateFulfordAuthor If you like laugh-out-loud dialogue, a fast & twisty plot + strong female narrative, may I recommend my debut novel to you? Links to reviews and more are in my bio. With thanks, Kate. 6y

Very good middle grade novel for teaching the awful truth about the Klu Klux Klan without being terrifying for children. Audiobook was excellent.

I'm so glad that I listened to this on audio. I'm not sure that I would have been as enraptured with the story if I had been reading it in verse, but because the author read it, she was able to read it in the meter & with the infection that she intended. It was lovely, as advertised. #LitsyReadingChallenge #MMDReadingChallenge #audiobook
