🤣😂🤣💀💀💀🧡🧡🧡
I live just across the river from North Dakota and it‘s a very different world on the other side of the river. They have more restaurants and then it‘s just flat land. I don‘t know why they haven‘t left yet, either.

Prairiegirl_reading I live north of North Dakota and we like to say that we haven‘t left because we are frozen to the ground. 😂 All joking aside it is very nice here in Manitoba in the summer. 4d
GingerAntics @Prairiegirl_reading 🤣😂🤣 that could be the same here. Accept this winter has been relatively mild (knock on wood). I‘d still rather be on your side of the boarder. I cannot even with this side of it. 4d
Prairiegirl_reading @GingerAntics what is going on down there is horrific! People who still support that maniac I‘ll never understand. 4d
GingerAntics @Prairiegirl_reading girl, same! I proudly voted for Kamala and Coach Walz. I don‘t get these people. Some of them are now claiming they were hypnotised and couldn‘t not vote for him no matter how much they tried. 🙄 Searching for a job amidst this nonsense is absolutely demoralising and seems to be more and more pointless by the day as more and more people get laid off, fired, and whatever else his people are doing. 4d

This is a beautiful book, and hard for me to describe. Parts are very uncomfortable as I‘ve never read an author who so accurately describes how scary it can be to be a woman. I didn‘t love the MC, and things do not really “end”, but it‘s a beautiful book. (15)

I enjoyed reading Louise Erdrich, and the Round House was when I got hooked. The same with There, There. I read Zadie Smith for a challenge.

I only read 20 from this list. If you would like to play, visit @dabbe for the original post and link. #TLT

dabbe The Louise Erdrich books on this list are not ones I've read! 😂 Now on the TBR! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🤩🤗🤩 2mo

This is my tenth Louise Erdrich book - and as always i loved her writing. Her characters are so real, and even though there are many characters and i get mixed up between some at times, its an education and an experience to be immersed in this community she creates. Its timely to read this and think about indigenous/First Nations history and treatment. Erdrich also presents plenty of insight into intimate relationships and gender roles here too ⬇️

Centique I get the feeling she has more she could tell us about Thomas and Patrice and Vera etc. Just like in the Love Medicine series how she keeps uncovering more from each family in the community, almost moving from house to house telling the next lot of stories. She is a legend 🙌 3mo
Rissreadswithcats And I haven‘t read one of hers yet! I do have this one and another one sitting on my shelf though. I will try read one this year 3mo
Ruthiella I loved Pixie/Patrice in this book. ❤️ 3mo

CarolynM I feel like I should try another one of her books. I wasn‘t keen on The Sentence, which is your favourite? 3mo
Centique @CarolynM i felt like The Sentence was quite a different style for her. The Love Medicine series is my favourite - but it helps to accept theres going to be a bunch of families you hear about and you‘re not going to get anyones full story in one book. Then again i did love The Round House and thats stand alone. 3mo
Centique Or Love Medicine is the first in the series @CarolynM 3mo
Centique @CarolynM i hope you like whichever one you try 😘 PS i just booked our Amazing Picnic for next week. Very excited thank you! 3mo
Centique @Ruthiella she was amazing - i just wanted to keep following what happens to her! 3mo
Centique @Rissreadswithcats i think you will really like her! This one has two main POVs and one is a little slower paced than the other - so i did have that feeling of wanting to get back to Patrice‘s POV. So often the case with multiple POVs! 3mo
Billypar Great review! I've only read three so far, but I loved them all. I keep forgetting how many Love Medicine books there are - I've only read the first one. But I have to recommend my favorite to @CarolynM - Plague of Doves is on my short list of all-time favorite novels. It's intense all the way through (I still have The Sentence on my tbr shelf, but it sounds quite different based on the description). 3mo
Reggie I have never read her. I wanted to read her haunted bookstore one but never got around to it. Great review. 3mo
Centique @Billypar thank you! Plague of Doves is one i havent read yet so i must get to that one. My favourite is the third book of the Love Medicine series 3mo
Centique @Reggie oh wow Reggie i think you will really like her. Love Medicine will introduce you to some characters you will love! I got my old book club to read it and one woman said “i just cant stand reading about people who keep making bad decisions” 😩 I guess its tough being perfect huh? Nobody writes books about ya? 3mo
Centique @Reggie the haunted bookstore one is also good but i feel like it‘s kind of more genteel. The Love Medicine books are more emotional and darker, harsher realities. 3mo
Reggie @Centique we read Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver for book group and most of them harped on this couple who at the end of middle age were living check to check. The way these people talked about this fictional couple you would have thought they took it personal. Lol I loved the book soooooo much and there are 2 scenes that will stick with me. I‘ll look up the Love Medicine books. Thanks! 3mo
CarolynM Hope it really is amazing 🤩 😂 or at least that you enjoy it😘 3mo
CarolynM Thanks for the particular Louise Erdich recs. You too @Billypar 🙂 (edited) 3mo
Suet624 Love Medicine will remain my favorite book of hers, although all of them are so good. @Reggie (edited) 1mo

A good book for a busy time of year when I don‘t have much time. Absurdist and at times you weren‘t sure if you were in “real life” or a hallucination, but funny. A soft pick.

It‘s been a few years since I last read anything of Erdrich‘s, but she‘s an author that I always keep an eye out for! This year I am the closest I have been in a while to reading a book from each state, but I still needed #NorthDakota, so I started listening to this one! The author performs though initially I wished for a cast list since a variety of the community emerges here in this historical novel based in part on Erdrich‘s own grandfather.

Wild Life | Cynthia DeFelice

Mehso-so

It starts off with young Eric finally getting his hunting license. He's excited about getting to shoot when his parents get sent overseas to fight for their country. Eric is forced to move across the country to live with his grandparents who Eric dislikes. while his grandma was at church and grandpa was out working, a dog came across their yard covered in porcupine quills. Eric takes care of the dog but his grandpa wants her out of the house. 1/2

Regan.Weenk While his grandparents are out again, he heads out to the prairies with his dog to “live like the pioneers.“ This five-day adventure was full of learning experiences, but eventually, he heads home and is reunited with his grandparents, who are a lot more welcoming than before. This book is hard to picture in your head. The setting is just an old house and lots of flat prairie land, and it's a slower, thoughtful story. 6mo
