Mehso-so

I liked the bits about his childhood, but when he‘d go off on long tangents on the history of Chemistry, he lost me. I quit reading the footnotes halfway through and wished for more details of his life, but he writes well and I didn‘t hate it, so I give it a so-so.

sisilia I enjoyed his memoir 4w

#MiddleGradeMonday @karisimo Easily a Middle Grade read, I think this book actually should be prescribed reading for schools along with your regular chemistry textbook!

Karisimo Sounds fascinating! Thanks for sharing! (edited) 2mo

Oaxaca Journal | Oliver Sacks
Mehso-so

Interesting format, just his journal from a week-long trip slightly edited. V enjoyable and quick. Funny little insights here and there. Useful reading ahead of my trip. Learned about things like tomb 7, milpa, and cochineal insects all before seeing them there. P tight.

Pickpick

I am an amateur botanist & love reading history, lit, eco agriculture and all things pop science. Knowing this, a new friend gifted me this book and I drank it quick, to give him my review when I see him tomorrow.

Hard to nail down my thoughts: enjoyable writing. I appreciated Sacks' scientific musings & his humility (he's British) when reflecting on the brilliance of Mesoamerican history & culture. Ready to read Zapotec & Olmec history now.

1. This is a beautiful, intimate, and humane love story to the spirit of everyday life in NYC and a moving tribute to the author‘s late partner Oliver Sacks.

2. Although not technically a genre, I love nature writing. Some of my favourite authors include Richard Wagamese, Terry Tempest Williams, and Mary Oliver

3. I read mostly non-fiction so I have so many 😂, Kay Redfield Jamison, Ibram X Kendi, Isabel Wilkerson...

Thanks @Eggs for the tag!
