This is either one of the best books I‘ve read on the Christian practice of contemplation—or I read it at exactly the right time. Or both. It made connections between contemplation and the fruit of the practice in ways that clicked for me. I‘ve found contemplation to be an exercise in trust & letting go. Laird‘s descriptions of the journey into silence dovetailed with that experience—it resonated deeply. I‘m so glad I read it at the time I did.

If I‘m physically reading a book, I like to have some lo-fi music playing on YouTube in the background to help me concentrate on the book I‘m reading. I don‘t think I would be able to concentrate on any other kind of music. I like talking about my favorite artists and new discoveries. Music is one of my favorite topics to talk about besides books so this is perfect for me. I enjoy participating in this.

What a beautiful exploration of non-traditional spiritual practices: of finding God in the everyday. I loved this! The chapters on getting lost and finding purpose were especially meaningful for me during a time where I‘ve stepped “off the path” so to speak, taking time to regroup and discern a new vocation and way forward.

Texreader What a beautiful cover! And excellent review. Stacked 3mo

If you like Thich Nhat Hanh or Eckhart Tollé, you may enjoy this. I‘m open to all ideas concerning spirituality and/or reality awareness—though the authors may use different descriptive terms, there are always some meaningful concepts to glean from it. Rohr has many good points that focus on contemplation, transformation, grace, liminality, kinesthetic ‘knowing‘, self acceptance, moral development, and so much more…

UwannaPublishme I remember listening to a talk by this author years ago. He does get you thinking. 🤔 3mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 3mo
Eggs @UwannaPublishme 🙌🏻 I did highlight and bookmark much of it! There is a hint of Catholicism to it, which neither excited me nor repelled me; I was Catholic the first 18 years of life. (edited) 3mo

UwannaPublishme I‘m a Catholic too and I‘ve been curious lately to learn more about contemplative prayer. It seems to pair well with my daily meditation practice. 3mo

A Book of Pagan Prayer | Ceisiwr Serith

I‘ve been trying to process this one for ages now. The first part is a good conversation starter. The second half is such a patchwork of pre-fab prayers it‘s hard to take them as genuine. Maybe if this had been done as a collaboration between the author and other people on the paths for these prayers it might seem more genuine and therefore be more helpful. By the end, my eyes were sort of crossed and I was just happy it was over.

GingerAntics I still feel “I‘ll pray for you” as a passive aggressive move or a way to absolve oneself of doing nothing at best and blaming others for things out of their control at worst has ruined open, genuine prayer for everyone. 4mo

“I am a guest here, charged with serving other guests—even those who present themselves as my enemies. I am allowed to resist them, but as long as I trust in one God who made us all, I cannot act as if they are no kin to me. There is only one House. Human beings must either learn to live in it together or we will not survive to hear its sigh of relief when our numbered days are done.”
