Contemporary realistic. Newberry award medal book written by Richard Peck is about a young boy who is in two weddings. It talks about small town life, gay marriage, everyday heroes, and male role models. Written from the perspective of the main character it is a good, fun, lighthearted read.

A coming of age story dealing with death, life, and role models. It is focused on positive male role models in a young males life. A good choice for middle school boys.

Parker Looks Up is one of my favorite RF-RA books. Parker goes to a museum and just wants to be seen! And then she stumbles upon something greater than all... something that makes her feel seen, heard, and understood. A great story to teach children diversity to have in the classroom 💕

Mmurphy I have to get this book!! Great job on your review!!✨ 3y
AlexRobinson What an amazing book!! Not only does it show the representation of diversity that was lacking in a majority of books we read growing up, this is also a PERFECT book to show that kids are capable and should be seen and heard as well! I think we as not only adults but teachers think younger kids are just “silly” therefore their thoughts are silly and might overlook them but kids have things to say! And want to be seen! So what a great reminder for 3y
AlexRobinson Not only for the kiddos but us as well! 3y
Spearsall continued: UDL 7.2 “Optimize Relevance, Value & Authenticity” is achieved here with Parker Looks Up because it allows children to feel seen and included authentically. Some ESOL strategies include encouraging self-talk, continually monitoring students comprehension, use direct instruction and teach note-taking strategies. These can be used while inducing this with a read aloud. 3y
DrSpalding I added this to my stack as well! Your summary is so enticing! I look forward to finding out more about this book. Building a diverse classroom library is something that we began with this semester. You will have a wide variety of beautiful children in your classrooms that need to see themselves in books. 3y
