This is an older one, but I really liked the way the author blended a past/present Romeo and Juliet storyline, along with some mystery and action.
“Memory is like a cat. It comes and wraps itself around you when you least desire it, and the moment you seek it out, it disappears.”
A book letter a day game!!
The book went back and forth from the 1300's to present day using the story of Romeo and Juliet as the main plot and as the main characters unraveled family and life-long mysteries…https://tinyurl.com/2wsbj2r9

Beatrice takes over her late brother's research & discovers 1- there may be a sinister reason the Plague hit Siena much harder than surrounding towns & 2- she is strongly drawn to a painter who lived there in the mid 1300s. She (somehow) travels back to that time & finds friendship, a new career, & love, while thwarting crimes committed against her beloved & solving the Plague mystery- though unable to prevent the devastation. #BorrowNotBuy
I loved this! Matar becomes fascinated by the Sienese school of painting and decides to spend a month indulging in this fascination. It‘s a beautifully quiet book, part memoir, philosophy, travelogue and art history that I didn‘t know I needed or wanted so badly.
One of those “bought it for the cover.” Loved the 1950s Tuscany glam with a dash of intrigue. #Mediterranean #LitsySpringBreak
This book is outstanding...the storyline, the descriptions, the characters, and Italy.
I can‘t see how it wouldn't be liked...it is a book you won't want to miss.
It has something for everyone...history, romance, mystery, betrayal, life in the 1300's in Italy, ancestors, middle-age family feuds, suspense, and a great author.
Ms. Fortier did a superb job with her novel.
