What an amazing and strange book. If you like science fiction then I‘d highly recommend this as something fresh and new (at least to Western audiences). Take a historical beginning and lead into a huge scientific mystery creating distress amongst the scientists of the world, insert a jaded police officer, a wide eyed physicist, a VR game and the creators of a potential world ending catastrophe - then mix it up violently!

Centique There‘s quite a lot of physics in here - I couldn‘t follow all of it, but I definitely learnt something! 🤓🧐 5y
Centique And that‘s my #somethingtranslated for @ReadingEnvy #readingenvysummerreading challenge done! 😁 (edited) 5y

Reggie Wow!!! Sounds intriguing. 5y
Centique @Reggie there was even a scene which made me put my hand over my mouth in horror. You wouldn‘t have raised one eyebrow though! 😂😂 5y
Reggie I liked how you said “and then mix it up violently.” Made me think of a blender, lol, but really how some books do a really good job of crescendoing multiple angles into this awesome moment. You make me wanna read this. And after The Laws of the Skies I don‘t even know who horror-Reggie of yesteryear is anymore. I might just squeeze my eyes real tight.😣. Lol 5y
Centique @Reggie it‘s changed you permanently! Eek! 😬 I don‘t know whether you‘d like this or not. It‘s sci fi and mystery - lots of explaining rather than lots of action - but I think you‘d enjoy the kind of philosophy it reveals as it goes - really thoughtful politically by the end of it. Rissreads I was just scrolling through this book‘s reviews and I came across yours. You are such a ‘wide‘ reader, you try anything! I want to be more like you! 😘 4y
Centique @Rissreads oh you are so lovely! Meanwhile I find I am never “on top” of any genre and what the latest, best books in it are, because I read too many genres! 😂😂But I don‘t read horrors or thrillers or true crime - can‘t read everything 😉 4y

All the Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have no words to do this book justice. I am left full of images & feelings. A brilliant piece of writing, sacred & profane. A force of nature & unputdownable to the very last word.
Set in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The Meneses family as they face into their final years.

Cathythoughts @Tamra I wished I had some violets for my picture. The best I could do we‘re two purple flowers from the garden 💜 5y
batsy Love the pic! And the book sounds so good. 5y

Cathythoughts @batsy thanks! And yes it‘s very good ♥️👍🏻 5y
Cathythoughts @Eggs I‘m saying nothing 😉 5y
Tamra It is amazing isn‘t it?! 5y
Tamra What did you think about the twist re: parentage? I thought it was a tad cheap, like he just couldn‘t leave it as is bc it was too gross - with either intentional or unintentional destruction on her part to get back at the family. 5y
Tamra @Cathythoughts 👍🏾😆 Perfect! 5y
Tamra Isn‘t it surprising we haven‘t heard more about this novel, given it was written in mid 50s? 5y
merelybookish Stacked! 5y
Cathythoughts @Tamra yes that was quite a twist at the end. I still have to process all that now ... it adds another dimension I wasn‘t expecting! I see what you mean ... it makes Ana far more complex ... not that they are all extremely complex already 5y
Cathythoughts @Tamra I can‘t believe we are only hearing of it now. Thanks so much for posting it up .... I really enjoyed (?!) it immensely ... brilliant book 5y
Cathythoughts @merelybookish I hope you like it. Will look out for your review when ever you get to it ♥️👍🏻 5y
TrishB Great review 👍🏻 5y
Cathythoughts @Tamra yes ! It is amazing ! I wouldn‘t have found it only for you 5y
Tamra @Cathythoughts leaves a lasting impression. It needs to be read twice I think to get everything, but not back to back. 😆 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Wow all the ⭐️ s! Must investigate this! Nice review 👍 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Oh great pic too! 📸 5y

Cathythoughts @erzascarletbookgasm maybe you will give it a whirl... I‘d be very interested to hear your thoughts if you ever do go there ♥️👍🏻 5y
Cathythoughts @Tamra this writer !!!! I will always associate violets with this book. And that‘s what he does so well ... make images that stay with the reader 💜💜💜 5y
Tamra You can‘t even give a warning without giving the twist away! 😜 5y
JennyM That‘s a beautiful pic. And I‘m very curious about this. Great review! 5y
