The bk then covers the 9 days of the 1926 general strike, + the characters are polarised btwn avid support of the cause + entrenched self-interest. What is interesting is how scared of revolution society was at a time when ww1 still impacts on lives + poverty is rife. A fascinating period, + good series. And the life of the writer is wortha bk itself ⬇️
August #bookspin pick is a middle grade novel in verse. Looks like it‘s gonna be good one. Still working on last months pick but I‘ll get to it. Eventually.

The Filipino families started a strike demanding higher pay, fair breaks to cool off, safe working conditions, and equal rights for female workers & children, among other things (illnesses/death from pesticide spraying). Cesar Chavez joined the fight, and soon after, Dolores Huerta. It was no picnic.
