Thanks for reviewing this book @Jeg encouraging me to read it. I havent read a book about estranged family members for a long time, and this was just written so well. Hillary is the widowed mother of two daughters who are no longer speaking to each other. We have her POV, Esther and April, the two middle aged daughters, and Lawrence, Esther‘s ex-husband. Each of them are at a crossroads. ⬇️

Centique The writing is beautiful, contemplative, examining relationships and choices. Loved it! 1w

Read an article in a weekend paper about her. Never heard of her before. Requested books from library and got two. This one was a bit of a tough read. Dysfunctional relationships. Excellent writing. First published in 1966. Long out of print until Text reprinted all her work in 2012 . Still being printed . An Australian author who should be remembered and read.

LapReader There are lots of Sydney Writer‘s Festival podcasts about her I‘m sure you‘d enjoy. 3w

This was good but I think I‘ve read too many fictionalised stories about actual historical figures. I think I prefer books that are ‘loosely based‘ on real life characters or real events. Using people‘s actual names and their ‘ thoughts‘ doesn‘t sit right with me. I just wasn‘t in the right mood to read this.

This book will stay with me for a while. Knowing the authors background and that she died the year this was published made this a thoughtful read for me. A story about relationships, living and dying and more. I loved it. I‘ve read a couple of her books now and loved them all. A talent lost too soon.

CarolynM I loved this one ❤️ It‘s too sad she died so young. 2mo
Centique What a wonderful review, i will have to move this up the TBR. 😍 2mo

Late term op shop after work. My collection of these yellow books is growing next to my orange penguins on my bookshelf. I will use the Easter paper to wrap my special kidlets Easter presents this year and because the school holidays are upon us I may have time for the craft project to put next to my other dolls.

Finally got around to reading this. Not too sure what I thought so I looked up the author and listened to her and got an idea of what she was doing in this book. Loved her descriptions of NY. Very real.
The story somewhat repetitive and drawn out. A brave first novel.

My #AuldLangSpine list is short but sweet. I have read two: The Marriage Portrait and The Four Winds. I can get the tagged book on Libby so will start there.

Thanks for an interesting list with several new to me titles @LapReader

Appreciate your work on my most favorite New Year‘s swap. @monalyisha
