pickI was in elementary school when this series started, and I remember my parents buying this debut installment for me from #TheScholasticBookClub. God, I loved that when I was a kid. This book resonated with me because we had moved several times when I was a kid, and there's the natural fears and awkwardness associated with a new town & new friends to make. Best book to start your kids with in this series! #PairWith: Bug Juice Spider Juice, chilled.

BekahB I was obsessed with the Goosebumps series when I was a kid! I still pick them up from time to time. I read an interview with R.L. Stine in Mental Floss magazine where he said that he's always considered this to be his scariest Goosebumps book. He said he intentionally added more goofy jokes into the rest of the series after this first Goosebumps was published. 👻 8y

BookNerdBritt I was obsessed with these books! I also loved the "choose your own adventure" ones with the metallic-looking covers that usually ended in being cornered by the monster, implying a horrible death. 8y
BookNerdBritt Also, true story - my elementary school librarian deemed them too scary for under-4th graders, so 3rd grade and younger were not allowed to check out Goosebumps books, but as an alternative were allowed check out books from the parody series... which was called Gooflumps. 8y
