Very lyrical and literary hence the Booker shortlisting. Plot less obvious, but a good read.

“Machiko Yoneoka eventually gave a curt nod of the head and gave them a name; a woman‘s name. Mogi had a vague feeling that it was a name he had heard somewhere before. He looked across at (her), intending to ask her to repeat it, and was surprised to see the woman looked quite terrified. Mogi turned to his left to see what she was staring at. It was Kaga. His eyes were the eyes of a hunting dog that has found its prey.”

Do love Japanese mystery writers. Second book I've read of Keigo Higashino and enjoying the mystery.
Lots of books read since my last Litsy post!!
I‘ve been off the internet for a few months…
I‘ve loved the Japanese crime genre, Conclave by Robert Harris which I read just before the recent Conclave. Brooklyn, Long Island and The Safe Keep were also favourites!
Did you ever want to be a tour guide in another country? Did you ever want to be one for the not so family friendly side of this country? Well, this book might change your mind. This book was a perfect with the idea of “What could happen if the tourists you‘re dealing with… might be something he isn‘t?” A quick slow burn. I recommend reading it at a least once.
I did not really like or understand this book. And I am not a huge fan of this much age gap
1. I went down a linguistic rabbit hole and settled on Cornish as the ancient (extinct) language I would like to learn.
2. I‘ve read a handful of books translated from Japanese, and they‘re all interesting. There‘s a whole subset of Japanese mysteries, and I‘d like to read more of them.

I couldn‘t finish this book. The « hunter‘s log » made my skin crawl. I had an inkling about the ending, so I flipped through the last few chapters to confirm that hunch.
Decent crime fiction. This was a random library pick because it‘s an Edgar winner, has a 4.42 on GR, and Dennis Lehane recommended it. I was curious about the Hard Case Crime covers, and they all seem to be like this! (There‘s almost no sex in this one. 😙)

1. Two authors (I‘m sorry I couldn‘t choose just one!) I‘ve discovered recently—and whose books I‘ve been reading about as quickly as I can get my hands on them—are Keigo Higashino and William Kent Krueger. Both write mysteries, albeit very different ones, and I can‘t get enough.
2. Tagged book is fantastic. Took me way too long to get around to reading it.
