An exciting book haul from my trip to Sydney to visit my son. Definitely influenced by recent travels 🛳 ⛩ ✈️ with A Gentleman in Moscow and Petersburg, The Train was on time a German novella and Before the Coffee Gets Cold based in Tokyo. Throw in Ian McEwan and John Le Carre...I don‘t know what to read first 🤭Some were on my TBR wish list and the others just had to be bought 🤣🤣😂

CarolynM I bought Before the Coffee Gets Cold today too. It sounds interesting. Hope we both enjoy it 🙂 1d
erzascarletbookgasm I‘ve seen a lot of this lately. Interesting premise, I think there was a film too. Looking forward to yours and @CarolynM ‘s thoughts when you both read it. 🙂 1d

Freespirit I bought it without knowing anything @erzascarletbookgasm . I shall let you know how it turns out..but I like the premise also and I enjoy Japanese authors...very quirky😍 1d
batsy The tagged book is something I'm interested in getting around to at some point! And agree with above, Before the Coffee sounds good as well. I've a soft spot for both Russian and Japanese fiction :) 1d
Freespirit Hi @batsy I will let you know how it goes. Some times those unknown books turn out to be the best😄 1d

I can't find anything to recommend this book. I didn't like the writing, the story or the main character! I think it's a memoir.....about a shallow, sex obsessed young would-be writer.....I did however very much enjoy the comments from my other postal markup team members @thegreensofa @LapReader @CarolynM and I feel like we need to get together for coffee/wine to complete our literary review in person😂❤️ #LMPBC #GroupZ #ozgroup

This book began as an article published in an Australian newspaper and received so much acclaim that it has been expanded into a book. It investigates the roots of misogyny with some historical context, the development of patriarchy, talks about rape, Weinstein, Trump and the development of the #MeToo movement. The women victims of violence world wide is mind boggling! This book is compassionate. He urges men to embrace sensitivity and respect and

Just finished listening to this retelling of Shakespeare‘s Hamlet by Ian McEwan and I thought it was really clever. The story is told by a very well spoken child in utero!!

Freespirit I have it in my huge mountain of books to be read Allissa @LapReader Hag Seed. I might have to read it next🌷 3mo
Aimeesue Hag-Seed is part of the Hogarth Shakespeare series of modern retellings, and probably the best. Vinegar Girl is also good. Jane Smiley's A Thousand Acres is a retelling of King Lear. My favorite is Stoppard's Rosencrantz andGuildenstern are Dead, but that's a play and best watched; it's what the minor characters are talking about/doing when the major characters are "on stage." (edited) 3mo

Mehso-so

This was between a so-so and a pick for me. The story was engaging enough for me to complete. It was atmospheric. It was a story told by many narrators which was confusing at times. I think listening to the different voices as an audiobook helped with sorting out who was doing what😬 #audiobook #audiowalking

Joanne1 I‘ve only read fairly ordinary reviews of this one especially compared to her first novel - which I loved - but maybe I should try it on audio. 4mo
Freespirit @Joanne1 I think the audio made it easy to understand. I don‘t think the plot was as good as her first novel. 4mo

I really enjoyed this book and I am not a fantasy reader. I liked the 2 main characters policeman Peter Grant and Detective Nightingale. It‘s funny and clever. There are ghosts and vampires. But for me the main character is London😍 It was my first OS destination and I love it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟👻☠️

BooknerdsLife This series is so addictive!! 😆 Glad you enjoyed it! Do you know that‘s it‘s now being developed into a TV series by Simon Pegg? Can‘t wait! 4mo
Freespirit It will make a great series...are the next books as good @BooknerdsLife ? 4mo
Centique @Freespirit I‘ve read all of them and loved them all! Always smart funny mysteries that keep you turning pages. 😍 4mo
Freespirit Thank you @Centique I will look out for the next one 😊 4mo
BooknerdsLife @Freespirit Oops sorry for late reply 😱🙈 I‘m only up to the 4th book but so far I still love the dry humours & mystery, quite an addictive read😆 4mo

Thanks @EadieB for the tag!
📚Reading Rivers Of London, a fun read and listening to Into the Water by Paula Hawkins which I have yet to make my mind up about!
📚Listening to All about Agatha and The Bookshelf as podcasts. The first is a discussion of Agatha Christie‘s novels, the second about books in general. Also The Teachers Pet.
📚I bought my son American Gods by Neil Gaiman which I have not yet read.

chaoticgoodhufflepuff Love Rivers of London! You should try listening to the next one if you like audiobooks! ❤️ 4mo
Freespirit That's a great idea @chaoticgoodhufflepuff 😍 The accents of the readers is one of the things I love. 4mo
chaoticgoodhufflepuff Apparently, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, the narrator, is so talented at accents, that Aaronovitch will throw in really specific ones, just to hear them done. I may be a little biased, I own all seven books on Audible. 😆 4mo

A book delivery from my fav Sydney book shop Abbeys😍 I needed to order my book for the #LMPBC group. I chose A Tree Grows in Brooklyn which I have wanted to read for ages. Of course I had to order King Leopolds Ghost and 84 Charing Cross Road which are #litsyrecommendations 😍 plus some historical fiction. The Library Book is a gift from my well-read neighbour and we plan to read and compare notes😊 Happy weekend reading💕

JennyM Hope you have lots of time to read this weekend. Some great picks there 😘 4mo
Freespirit Unfortunately I‘m working nights this weekend @JennyM but I will sneak some reading in👍🏼😊I‘m enjoying my current read 4mo

📚My oldest friend is Helen. We met at a school fete when I was 11. We have stayed best friends, living together, being each other‘s bridesmaids, supporting each other in bringing up our children. Here we are on my nurses graduation day in 1982!
📚Definitely Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia
📚The smell of musk reminds me of summer in the pool as kids eating musk sticks
📚Circe which was 3 ⭐️ for me

Mehso-so

Unfortunately for me Circe was a mediocre read ☹️ It just never engaged me and I felt myself wishing for it to finish so I could start something new. Sorry to all those who loved it 😬I had heard so much about it that it did not live up to my expectations.

Cathythoughts I don‘t feel drawn to this one at all ... 4mo
Freespirit It was well written @Cathythoughts but a bit dull😟 4mo

Thanks @Pricel101 for the tag!
🌷I must be the only Aussie ever not to have a Nic-name! 🤣
🌷The tagged book which my boys loved growing up😍
🌷Love reading book reviews but too much hype about a book can put me off😬
🌷I don‘t buy a book based on its cover usually, but shy away from books with dull covers
#wonderouswednesday @Eggs Have a great day😊

Pickpick

Finished The Overstory. Wow what a powerful novel. Needs to be a slow absorbing read..very well written. My main thoughts being surrounded by native bush and nut orchard on our farm Is that I have always loved trees, but I think I will look at them with fresh eyes now. Definitely 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #literaryfiction #ecoliterature #savetheplanet

I have needed to read The Overstory more slowly to fully appreciate its message and complexity. It‘s such an important story. As a lover of trees it‘s also heartbreaking.
I‘m sitting in front of our wood stove feeling sad about burning the logs. They are at least the off cuts from our pecan orchard ❤️🌲#literaryfiction #ecofiction
