Loved it—this was absolutely fantastic! The second Detective Galileo mystery, featuring a detective and his best friend who is a physics professor, was every bit as good as the first. While you know, more or less, very quickly who the culprit is, it is the investigation of the “how” that drives the narrative. A seemingly impossible crime, preconceptions, betrayals, secrets…all the ingredients come together in a very satisfying story. Excellent.

Both Maisie Dobbs & Karen Prine are complex, engaging protagonists with not only the challenges of their mysteries, but also challenges in their personal lives. This combination brings a depth to these novels.

Started my library book this morning, the 2nd in the Detective Galileo series. 📚☕️

That was a fun puzzle. More about working out the how than the who. My third Higashino (after Malice and Devotion of Suspect X) and I‘ll definitely be reading more. Really enjoy his style.

I love these cozy Japanese mysteries. In this, Book 2 of the Detective Galileo series, someone has poisoned a newly wed man‘s coffee. His wife? His girlfriend? The maid? The butler? And why? Thus begins an investigation worthy of Hercule Poirot.

I loved this Japanese crime novel where the primary suspect is a famous quilter. I‘ve really liked the other books I‘ve read by this author too. And if you‘ve never seen any Japanese patchwork, it‘s usually exquisite, not to mention extremely intricate (and usually sewn by hand).

For me the focus on the arson was a bit too narrow - too little actually happened to my taste - but still a more than decent thriller.

The Devotion of Suspect X remains my favorite but I‘m eager to read another Higashino.

Malice still remains my favourite book from this author because of the sleuthing & mind games. But this book was far superior when it came to heart of a story & depth. I am not sure if it's as memorable as the rest of the author's stories, but I would love to see this adapted into a movie (has it been adapted?) . I won't reread it but it's definitely a one time read book. Go for it, it's a quick read as well.

I did think this was very good ! Cleverly done. Maybe a little too complicated & too precise ... for my liking. I liked The Devotion of Suspect X the best ( so far )

Have been feeling unsettled... So , finally relaxing into tagged book . Went for morning walk by the river . Went to town & got Joseph OConnors new book Shadowplay ( love him) 🥰. Made a crustless quiche. I feel that relaxed reading vibe coming on. And I have a day off ♥️👍🏻

I‘m in that wonderful place ... just finished a brilliant book .. and needing a change of pace .. and trying to decide what to read next ... I‘m going for this one , recommended by @erzascarletbookgasm ... decision just made ♥️👍🏻

This police procedural will have you wanting to finish it in one sitting. Det. Kusanagi, his partner, and physicist Yukawa dubbed ‘Det. Galileo‘ once again work together to solve a crime. The plot is simple, the crime is brilliant..an almost perfect crime. From earlier on, we are led to suspect a character, but that doesn‘t take away the suspense and will still keep us hooked on. An absorbing ‘howdunnit‘. I liked this better than the first book.👍

This second book in the ‘Detective Galileo‘ series is so good!
If you‘ve enjoyed the first one, The Devotion Of Suspect X, you‘ll enjoy this as well, or even more. I am finding it hard to put the book down!

Another winner. This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire team. Higashino has taken the procedural to a new level. Can‘t wait to read the next one.

Finished the Devotion Of Suspect X yesterday and moving right onto to the next one on the series.

This was my least favorite book of his. It wasn‘t bad, but I was ruined by reading Journey Under the Midnight Sun first.

A procedural worthy of Sherlock. The mystery is not so much who committed the murder but how and why. It was interesting change from most western crime novels. #InTranslation #2018christyread

Reading more mysteries lately!

Really enjoyed this detective story set in Tokyo. Interesting premise and engaging characters, the likeable but flawed detective Kusanagi trying to solve the mystery with the help of his physicist friend Yukawa.

I have such a weakness for Japanese crime fiction. Especially by Keigo Higashino. So far I've read The Devotion of Suspect X and Under the Midnight Sun. Hopefully more of his works will be translated!

I've got four great comics from the library (see yesterday's post), downloaded these six library e-books and will pull a few more physical books from my shelves because part of the #readathon fun is making up those crazy stacks of books.

Have you read Kigashino? I find his Police Detective Kusanagi quite a hero, delivering the killer punch in this novel.
