Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type is a Modern Fantasy book about Cows who use a typewriter to get what they want from their owner. This is a good book to use in the classroom, to support student cooperation in a read aloud. http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceLesson/Preview/58153 #UCFWalterslit

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl is a Fantasy novel about a boy whose parents were eaten by rhinos so he was sent to live with his aunts. He was miserable but one day he met an old man who changed his outlook when he gave him magical seeds. This lesson goes great with teaching figurative language (similes and metaphors)! http://www.roalddahl.com/docs/Lesson1JamesandtheGi_1435151433.pdf #UCFWalterslit

Nichdorsey02 I remember watching this movie as a kid. I think this would be a great book to read to children and compare it to the movie 7y

The Magic School Bus Lost in the Solar System by Joanna Cole is a Fiction book that throws a fun spin on learning about the solar system. The link below is an activity that can be used over a few days to learn all about the planets along with the book. https://www.aiaa.org/uploadedFiles/Education_and_Careers/STEM_K-12_Outreach/Kids... #UCFWalterslit

Nichdorsey02 Great book series to read to kids and introduce topic related to science classes. Gives a more creative way of learning. 7y
Racheal.Shi.Horton I always loved watching these movies in school. Reading the books or watching the movies, is a fun way to teach the students the lesson. 7y

El Deafo | Cece Bell
post image

El Deafo by Cece Bell is an Autobiography (Graphic Novel) that describes what it feels like to grow up deaf all while trying to maintain a normal childhood. Although the book describes real scenarios and situations, the characters are all rabbits. Here are some neat questions that are based upon different subjects but all relate to the book. https://www.abramsbooks.com/pdfs/academic/El_Deafo_TeachingGuide.pdf #UCFWalterslit

Nichdorsey02 Haven‘t read this but like the comic book style. It would easily attract young male readers. 7y
Racheal.Shi.Horton I used this book too, it is a good way to teach students to not judge people and that everyone matters. 7y

This is a MF where a mermaid swallows different sea creatures. What's interesting is the little facts are given about the creatures, like how an eel's body creates fluorescent light that are included. I can see this book being used in a guided reading. It's a sequence book and I found a sequencing activity to go with it. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/There-Was-An-Old-Lady-Who-Swallowed-... #UCFWalterslit

Nichdorsey02 Great way to introduce a new topic to kids about under water creatures. 7y

All the Water in the World | George Ella Lyon
post image

All the Water in the World is a Poetry picture book written by George Ella Lyon. It explains all about water, the different forms we can find it in and how water is not “made” but instead it is found in many ways. I think this would be a good science book to read when discussing liquids. This is a cool activity to go with it. http://www.miseagrant.umich.edu/lessons/lessons/by-broad-concept/earth-science/w... #UCFWalterslit

Caitlin4 I would have never considered the idea of using a poetry book to teach about water during science. That's a really neat idea. 7y
Nichdorsey02 Great way to introduce water to students in a different way than using a textbook. Poems are a great way to learn. 7y

The Slug | Elise Gravel
post image

The slug is a nonfiction book that uses humor to educate students about the topic of slugs and is part of the Disgusting Critter series. Here's an article with different ways the series could be used in the classroom. I'd pair it with a traditional nonfiction for compare and contrast. https://thereisabookforthat.com/2014/10/22/nonfiction-picture-book-wednesday-lit... #UCFWalterslit

Nichdorsey02 Would like to read this book. Seems like a good way to teach students through humor and make things enjoyable. 7y

Grace for President | Kelly S. DiPucchio
post image
Pickpick

Grace for President is a realistic fiction that helps explain the electoral process to young students. I could see this being used during social studies while students are learning about government. I found some activities that go into further learning on the election process for students. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Elections-and-Voting-Interactive-Not... #UCFWalterslit

Kirsten.Pacheco This is such a cute book! It would definitely be something I would use to explain presidency and elections to my students during a social studies lesson! It‘s also extremely powerful for young girls, love it! 7y
Nichdorsey02 A great book that gives background information of the presidency and the election process so students can understand. 7y

Snowflake Bentley | Jacqueline Briggs Martin
post image

Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin is a Biographical picture book about a young boy who developed a fascination of snow crystals through pictures. He received a microscope for his fifteenth birthday and had over 5000 pictures of his snowflakes up until his death. Here are some good resources to assess students understanding of the book. https://teachers.net/lessons/posts/4357.html #UCFWalterslit

Nichdorsey02 Sounds like a good book to introduce for a science lesson on precipitation. Would definitely give it a read. 7y
