This book won a Caldecott medal in 1999. It is about a man named Bently who loved the snow and would spend hours trying to draw the snowflake's intricate details before they melted. He never could until his parents got him a camera. He took amazing pictures of snowflakes and would sell them for really cheap. He never became rich off of the pictures and instead shared his love of snow with others.

His parents help by getting a camera. it‘s a lovely book with a lovely story about how far someone can go with what they love.
This is a book I would love my students to read! Learning new things you never thought about is so awesome!

I love the format of this book! It‘s so different and reminds me of The Mitten almost. The illustrations are also very warm which reminds me of winter and cold.
pickThis is another biography that highlights how something so normalized now was not appreciated back in the day. Wilson Bentley was very persistent and passionate about capturing snowflakes and nature and would not be deterred. This has a great message for kids.

pickIn Vermont we all know the story of Snowflake Bentley. He spent his life magnifying and photographing snowflakes in Jericho, Vermont, proving that each snowflake is uniquely different. After reading this book a zillion times to Captain Adorable, I realized he would appreciate driving the 45 minutes to the Snowflake Bentley Museum. How lovely that we were able to drive there while it was snowing.
