At a #VWF2017 event, John Freeman told the audience he lives with a literary agent who represents Anne Carson & Claudia Rankine. She says, judging by what she sees coming across her desk, that essays & the forms between forms are where it‘s at now. I would say that both of the books I‘ve photographed are forms outside of standard memoir or nonfiction.
Yam fries and a sleeve of local brew while I wait for my next event at #VWF2017. This morning, Camille Bordas, about coming of age novels, said it's not nice to be a child going through adult experiences for the first time, but it's interesting to watch. She was born in 1987 & this is her 3rd novel, the 1st in English (her 3rd language after French & Spanish). Audience question: how do you do it? Answer: one sentence at a time.
It's been one fantastic session after another here at the #VWF2017. I went to this morning's A Boy's Life event expressly to hear John Boyne, but came away wanting to also read the other panelists latest novels (Camille Bordas & Wayne Johnston). As a child, Boyne said he liked reading about orphans because they were the heroes of their own stories.
Reading on the bus on the way to #VWF2017 yesterday I almost forgot to look up and enjoy the view. Folks, this book is goooooooood.
Poetry and ginger tea with lemon. In a session earlier today, #Canadianpoet Dennis Lee was asked about using humour in his writing. He said laughter can come from a deep place because sometimes you laugh in order to keep from disintegrating. #VWF2017
I felt like I was floating when I came out of the Poets in the House event at #VWF2017. Kim Addonizio was new to me. Eileen Myles and Hera Lindsay Bird were great. I want more. 😊
Witi Ihimaera had a kd lang/Anne Murray thing going on with bare feet on stage. He explained that it was to keep his shoes dry for his flight back to NZ later today. (It was raining outside.) Next to Witi is Helen Humphreys; this event about memoir was FANTASTIC! #VWF2017
