Once Upon a River | Diane Setterfield

CBee What are you thinking of Once Upon…. ? I have it languishing on my shelves. 14h
CSeydel @CBee I‘m enjoying it! It‘s a slow burn getting started, but if you enjoy atmospheric descriptions and a sort of desultory approach to plot, I think you‘ll find it rewarding 14h
CSeydel I guess what I mean is that she has all these seemingly unrelated characters who eventually get involved in the same event, so she‘s telling each of their plot threads in turn, and it can be a little disorienting, like, what does this have to do with anything? That was one complaint at book club… but overall people thought it was well written and the suspense paid off. 14h
CBee @CSeydel I‘ll eventually get around to reading it for sure then 😊 14h

“Music doesn‘t just progress forward in a straight line but works backward into the past as well. Without understanding that, you would never appreciate the fascination of the fugue.” - At the end of the matinee

Enjoying all three of these books, but especially this one!

Empire of Billions | E. Masson

Panpan

This was an odd read to say the least. I was very confused when I finished it.

The story was very superficial. It never dove deep into any of the characters. I never felt like I knew any of them beyond the surface level.
