I had never heard of this Seuss book but I saw it in my LFL. It was cute, I picked it up for an older (83) relative.

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

Playing catch up here as I got a new phone and can't download the Litsy app, thus using the desktop site!
Very keen to read this but it took a bit of perseverance. The characters all seemed self involved and critical of each other, hardly friendly... But I did stick with it and enjoyed the overall story.

Cathythoughts New phone ! My biggest nightmare, I hope it‘s sorted for you now 👍🏻 3w

Adele (a broke &once successful actress),Wendy (an intellectual & once acclaimed writer)&Jude (a former restaurant manager) gather at Sylvie‘s beach home to clean out the house so that Sylvie‘s daughter can sell it. Sylvies‘s death impacts their relationship in ways none of them could have anticipated. They all deal with grief, aging & other losses differently. Wonderfully relatable, beautifully written. Switching points of view is so

Anna40 skilfully done & gives the reader so much insight into the thoughts & memories of the women but is never boring or shallow. Oh & there‘s also Finn, Wendy‘s old & deaf dog. Relatable, deeply moving, funny with wonderful characters. What an amazing book. I couldn‘t put it down. This is how you write female characters in their 70s. We need more books like this one! 3w
Bklover Sounds wonderful! 3w

@CSeydel I started this on audio today and can already tell that it will affect me deeply. As a former hospice nurse, I‘m very aware of unnecessary and often more painful medical interventions that hurt rather than help. There is such a thing as a “good” death, one that allows quality of life in those last days/months rather than quantity. #ALSpine25 @monalyisha

CSeydel Oh wow I didn‘t know you were a hospice nurse! You will no doubt already have thought a lot about the issues he brings up, which I had not. Still, he is an excellent writer, and the book is quite powerful. 1mo
CBee @CSeydel so far I‘m pretty blown away, and his writing is excellent. Great narrator on the audio too, which helps! I won‘t finish it quickly but will listen to it throughout the month 😊 1mo
DogMomIrene I didn‘t know you were a hospice nurse. My husband was a hospice nurse for a couple of years back in the States. Definitely his favorite nursing job because he did learn, and shared with me, that a good death does exist. We‘ve got a small pile of books on death. Will need to check that this one is there. 1mo

CBee @DogMomIrene it was my favorite too, if I‘m being honest. Strange to say but it was so rewarding and I felt honored to be with my patients in their last days ♥️ 1mo
DogMomIrene @CBee That‘s exactly how Matthew felt. It‘s not a nursing position for everyone, but when a person fits, you know. 1mo
CBee @DogMomIrene is he still a nurse? I left years ago but love hearing about other‘s experiences! 1mo
DogMomIrene @CBee He‘s retired. He and our pup Bernie just got certified as a therapy dog team. They had their first visit at the hospital with a patient recovering from burns. And he‘s looking at visiting the palliative care home here, which is like a hospice house in the States. So he‘s retired, but finding ways to make a difference for patients. 1mo
CBee @DogMomIrene wow, that‘s so lovely ♥️♥️ 1mo

“One of the wonderful things about fictional characters is that they can illustrate for us, in particularly memorable ways, aspects of the human experience that we might otherwise fail to appreciate.”

My cat Boots is not a fictional character, but here she is!

Interesting. A bit of a scary topic as it makes clear that we are woefully unprepared, at the present time, to deal with the results of expanding life expectancy.
