I really wanted to love this. I do love the term hagitude and I am finally embracing my cronehood. But there was too much psychology and not enough mythology for me. And then the author states that there should be gathering places for women who were born as women, basically saying that it's OK to exclude trans folx in certain cases. So yeah, not great. We don't all need the exact same experience to relate.
Somehow, listening to Dick Van Dyke read his book is just as calming and soothing as watching him on TV. It must be his voice. There is just something about his general happiness that makes you feel happy, too. He just generally makes you feel like, eventually, everything is going to be alright. That‘s so vital at the moment, the ability to have a little hope.

This man sat next to MLK when asked by a friend if he would help MLK while he was in LA. When asked if he was worried about getting shot sitting bet to MLK, he joked he‘d lean to the left. He also said, it wouldn‘t be so bad dying for a good cause. He said, in hindsight, he would have been sorry he didn‘t also get to be there to stand up for Mariah‘s equality later in life.

Okay, now that I‘ve gotten all riled up from my last book, I need some comic relief.

This one was so much more satisfying than its predecessor and I really liked being with Emily solely, rather than flipping around to her other family members...although I am so fond of Arlene. I had a little trouble with the timeline since Wish You Were Here seems like it takes place roughly a decade before this book. Rufus, her still elderly dog, was still around?! I'm happy he was, though. 🐶
