Educated: A Memoir | Tara Westover
post image

August was a weird month for me, as far as reading goes. I started so many books but by the 18th, I‘d finished a total of three. I didn‘t expect to finish too many others before the month ended but by some miracle, I did complete five more novels plus one children‘s picture book. You can hear all about my August reads here: https://youtu.be/BWgsrFfI08k

EadieB @Butterflyamore Again, a very nice video! I would be interested in the Riley Sager books you mentioned. I haven‘t read any but I have been seeing his books a lot on Litsy. I mentioned before that I also loved 13th Tale. I will try Educated as I‘ve seen a lot of that book too. Possibly will read Hollow Kingdom as that seems really different. Not sure about the fantasy House of Salt & Sorrows. Will not read your 3 stars as I agree with your reviews. 5y
EadieB @Butterflyamore A lot of the books from August are mystery series that are buddy reads. My favorite are: Sean Duffy by Adrian McKinty which are all 5 stars Reads from me and Maeve Kerrigan by Jane Casey are excellent books too. Mo Hayder‘s Jack Cafferty series is very dark and horrific so some of her books are questionable but there are some aspects of her books that I need to know what‘s going to happen. 5y

EadieB Started some new series: Locked In by Kerry Wilkinson which I loved and will continue. A Great Deliverance Inspector Lynsey series by Elizabeth George was great too. Murder in Marais by Cara Black was a 4 star read. Not as good as the others I mentioned but still ok. Also Buddy reads of all the books written by Ken Follett and Maeve Binchy have been excellent. Not happy with Susanna Gregory‘s A Conspiracy of Violence which is historical mystery. 5y
EadieB @Butterflysmore Excellent stand-alone is Say Nothing a history of The Troubles in Northern Ireland during the 70‘s and 80‘s which was most interesting. Lisa Jewell‘s I Found You was very good too. Crawdad‘s was good too but this book was over-hyped. Also read Fahrenheit 451 science fiction which was interesting and it‘s on the 1001 book list of books to read before you die. I‘ve read 236 of the 1001 books. Tiger Catcher by Paulina Simons was good. (edited) 5y
EadieB @Butterflyamore Tiger Catcher was a bit of a fantasy and magical romance (a NetGalley book). Recursion was science fiction and I wasn‘t sure about it but did give it 4 stars even though I don‘t really like science fiction but it ended up satisfying me in the end. So that‘s about it as I read 21 books which helped me catch up on my goal of 200 for this year. Mostly what I have in common with you is the psychological thrillers. 5y
abookishbutterfly @EadieB It sounds like you read a lot of great things! I definitely want to read more by Lisa Jewell since reading The Family Upstairs. I am planning to read Fahrenheit 451 at some point. I liked what I read by Bradbury as a teen but I need to reread those at some point, too, because I barely remember them now. I will have to find that list and see how many I‘ve actually read on it. I don‘t think my number will be as high as yours! 5y
EadieB @Butterflyamore I started with around 50 books before I heard of the list but worked at reading more a few years back. You can google and find a list but here‘s a video that may give you some info: https://youtu.be/fmfBUXNeyHc 5y
abookishbutterfly @EadieB Thank you for sharing the link! I think my husband has read a lot more from the list than I have. 5y
EadieB @Butterflyamore Yes, well you have plenty of time to catch up. I have found some very interesting ones and you can find some of my reviews on Goodreads as I am keeping track of my books there. I guess you will have to friend me at Eadie Burke. (edited) 5y
abookishbutterfly @EadieB I sent a friend request. 😊 5y
EadieB @Butterflyamore I found you by using the link you supplied at the top of your Litsy. So all you have to do is accept my friendship. Ok done! We are now friends on Goodreads. (edited) 5y
abookishbutterfly @EadieB Yay! I must have initially requested the wrong person. I wonder if she‘ll accept my request, too. Haha 5y
EadieB @Butterflyamore Oh that's funny! I do have a separate shelf for the 1001 books. (edited) 5y
