I used to live in the Twin Cities, & my favorite indie bookstore there (& easily top 5 ever) is Birchbark Books & Native Arts in Minneapolis, Mn. It's owned & operated by Louise Erdrich, & it has an unparalleled curated selection of books, particularly those by indigenous authors. It's full floor to ceiling with beautiful native art, writing, poetry, & has cozy places to read. I always walk out with many titles I'd never heard of. 🌿🍃#getindie
Shortstack I went to high school in Anoka! Small freaking world! I've also lived in Pittsburgh and Fargo, ND. 8y

BookishFeminist @Shortstack Umm WHERE??? @becausetrains is from Anoka Co. He grew up in Circle Pines & went to Centennial. We lived in St Paul & visit his folks out there often. 8y
BookishFeminist @LeahBergen Yes! Such a beautiful bookstore. 8y
BookishFeminist @haileyhugsbooks I thought you were from MN from some of your posts! You should def make the trip down from St Cloud and go. Easily one of my all time fave bookstores, and I visit a lot. Lol 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist Crazy!! I went to Anoka Senior High. I also lived in Andover K-3rd grade. The 7 years I've lived here is probably the longest I've stayed in one spot my entire life. 👀 My parents just moved to Phoenix two years ago, but we still go to the Back to the 50s car show most Summer's at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. 8y
Shortstack @haileyhugsbooks Midwest represent!!! 🙌 8y
Karkar Minnesota is the best state ever!!! ❤️❤️❤️ 8y
Alicia Definite #booktourist goals to visit there! 8y
BookishFeminist @Shortstack gah the 50s car show! Lmaooo. Also known as "Sarah trying to run errands in Roseville and getting stuck behind an antique half put-together vehicle going 5 mph down Hamline Ave" ??? 8y
Shortstack @BookishFeminist Have you ever been? It's so much fun! 8y
becausetrains @Shortstack small world! I miss the MN State Fair itself, and Back to the 50s too. My dad and I sometimes went to the car show, and occasionally my uncle brought his '63 Pontiac. Haven't been to either for three years since moving to DC. (Also... I've heard & read stories about the Anoka-Hennepin School District and "tolerance issues" - how did you fare?) 8y
Shortstack @becausetrains I mostly kept to myself in high school. I took my senior year away at college. Anoka Senior High was do massive it was easy to get lost in. You'd hear stuff though and it'd break your heart. Also: Nice! My dad had a 33' Ford when I was growing up. 8y
Nebklvr So need to go! 8y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I had NO idea this existed. If I ever get back to MN, this is a MUST VISIT! 8y
ramyasbookshelf Louise Erdrich owns a bookstore??!! I want to go there now! 8y
becausetrains @Shortstack yeah, I don't blame you for going to college early! Kind of wish I had, or at least done most courses at community college. Your dad's car sounds pretty cool 😎 remind me to tell you sometime about the truck my dad bought to restore (and how it's still sitting there 20 years later 😐😂) 8y
Shortstack @becausetrains I'm excited to hear about it! My dad restored a Malibu with his twin brother. I'm jealous. I want to restore a car! 8y
becausetrains @Shortstack I wish it was that exciting! 😂 Back when I was in junior high (I'm 33 now, haha) he bought a 1950 International Harvester on a whim from a family down the street, and has been slowly, fitfully throwing money at it since. I still have no idea why he chose that model of truck, since he never drove one and no one around him owned one 🤔 Since he is a boring engineer, he wants to be pretty much stock too 😂 8y
RealLifeReading Love Louise Erdrich and this book! 8y
WordWaller YASSSS 🙌 I 💖 BirchBark! 8y
WordWaller @BookishFeminist OMG I used to live in Roseville right off Hamline and THE STRUGGLE WAS REAL. Fun seeing all the cars though 😂 8y
BookishFeminist @WordWaller 😂😂 I can imagine! We used to live on Grand Ave & the Roseville library was where I went to study all the time. 🙅🏻🙅🏻 As if Grand Ave wasn't bad enough! 8y
Seashore Love the quilt in the background, very cozy. 8y
