Iachimo is even more of a jerk in this version than the original (or at least it's more clear how much a jerk he is).

The Queen I almost expect to cackle when she speaks.

I am absolutely adoring this take on #Cymbeline. The author has done a really good job of keeping as much of the original text as possible, while putting into prose, so it's just a bit clearer. #davidbruce #shakespeare #brucedavidbruce #shakespearereadalong

Jess_Read_This I felt the same way about the Queen while reading the original. I hope there was some well placed cackles when it was performed on stage. 7y
GingerAntics @Jess_Read_This I want to see a stage production just so I can see if they did! lol I found a movie version on Crackle, but movie versions are always hit or miss so I haven't watched it yet. 7y
Austen_Nerd love this version 7y

readinginthedark Yes, he makes my skin crawl. In the version I saw, they made Cymbeline a female and changed her Queen to a King. He would look at the audience with a really evil gleam and a couple of times his mouth kind of twisted and there was some evil hand rubbing. It was 👌🏻 @Jess_Read_This 7y
GingerAntics @Austen_Nerd so do I. It's preserved a lot of the language, but I've picked up on so much more of the subtle nuances. 7y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark oh now that just sounds hilarious!!! 7y
readinginthedark It was perfect! And Cloten expressed himself very physically—spitting out words, stomping around, and occasionally hitting his chest with a fist—very appropriate! 7y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark that does sound perfect. 7y

Since there is still time in the Cymbeline read-a-long, I thought I'd take this for a spin. I've never read this author before, but if the way he wrote his bio is any indication, it's going to be good!!! It's only about 250 pages, so it should be a quick little read, too. lol #davidbruce #cymbeline #shakespeare #brucedavidbruce #prose #verse #shakespearereadalong (sort of)

Jess_Read_This Looking forward to your review of it!! 7y
readinginthedark Interesting! 250 pages is not a short read for me 😆 but I like to read extra stuff with the plays, too! 7y
GingerAntics @readinginthedark let me rephrase, it's shorter than a lot of other supplemental/additional materials for Shakespeare plays. I've seen some of this stuff turn into absolute tomes. Sometimes I wonder how their own work ends up so drastically longer than the actual play. 7y
readinginthedark That‘s true! If you think about how many discussions we‘ve had over one line, though, I can see how these books would become so long. 7y
