A Greater Than Napoleon: Scipio Africanus | Sir Basil Henry Liddell Hart
Pickpick

An interesting book that makes a good case that scipio was the greatest military commander of all time. He is enamored of Scipio‘s integrity and felt that it did him harm politically. He is able to make a good case with an economy of words that is great for people that want to learn about something but not become an expert. I recommend it because it‘s made me think about things that are as relevant today as they were then.

ROME: We have maybe 20 names we use in various orders.

CARTHAGE: Hold my beer.

Everyone is named Hanno, Hamilcar, or Hannibal. I have no idea who's doing anything. Maybe it's the same three guys and they're immortal.

(It might also have something to do with how I put the book down months ago and just picked it back up last week.)

Another great history book covering the three Punic wars between Rome and Carthage. Hannibal was a military genius and tactician. It's kind of sad that he never really had the full support of Carthage. The world might be totally different today if he had. Great book. Recommend to anyone who loves ancient history/military history.

The Romans had no problem giving their failed commanders terrible nicknames.

"... The crews of a seventeen ship squadron panicked and we're captured, earning for their commander, an ancestor of Scipio Africanus, the nickname Asina ('she-ass')."

Another journey into ancient military history. This one was recommended by Myke Cole, author of Legion Versus Phalanx. Excited to dig in!

Really was not a fan after being pretty excited to pick it up. The character dialogue feels like they are talking at you, the reader, rather than the other characters and the forced historical references give a choppy pace.

Hannibal of Carthage was one of the most brilliant generals in history where his famed march was deemed as one of the boldest military strategy of all time. During the #SecondPunicWars in 218 BC, he took 35,000 men from Spain & 37 #warelephants across the seemingly impassable Alps mountain range & onto the plains of Italy, which led to the defeat of the Romans army. This book focused on the most probable route that Hannibal & his troops took.

I love creating drawings from how I see everything in a book. It's a memory for myself and I love the hobby
