Pickpick

90 year old Hagar is nearing the end of her life, her body and her mind are failing, but she is still very much the proud, wilful person she has always been. Remembering events from her long life, she begins to see what that pride and will have cost her. She is an extraordinary character who I will not forget in a hurry. Thanks for the buddy read Barbara and Helen. Thanks Leah for gifting me this wonderful book.

Cinfhen Pretty photo 😍 3y
LeeRHarry Gorgeous magnolia- I‘m loving seeing them around 😊 3y
CarolynM @Cinfhen @LeeRHarry Thank you😘 😘 Spring is springing - the magnolia is flowering, the hyacinths are out and there are daffodils in our front lawn🙂 Reasons to be cheerful in lockdown🌸🌷🌼 (edited) 3y

Cinfhen Agreed ♥️🌸🌞 3y
BarbaraBB Wonderful magnolia and review. I think we felt pretty much the same about it! 3y
Lizpixie Hows your lockdown going my fellow #covidprisoner? Mines just going from bad to worse, even having years of practice hasn‘t been helping lately🤪 3y
squirrelbrain Lovely review! I think all 3 of us felt the same didn‘t we Carolyn @BarbaraBB ? Your magnolia is gorgeous! 3y
CarolynM @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain Thank you😘😘 Interesting that we all had much the same reaction. I wonder whether that says more about the book or about us? 3y
CarolynM @Lizpixie I'm sorry, lovely. Sending hugs🤗🤗 It's hard to be forcibly separated from family and friends. Hang in there. 💕 3y
Lizpixie Thank you sweetie. It must be hard on you guys down there too, especially with people wilfully breaching orders with parties etc. I know it drives me nuts some of the morons in Sydney. How‘s your family coping? At least we‘ve had perfect early spring weather, what‘s Melbourne been like? The magnolias are stunning, I‘ve always wanted to put one in, it‘s a toss up between that or a Japanese maple 🍁 3y
Cathythoughts Lovely review ❤️ 3y
CarolynM @Lizpixie I think it's a mixture of feeling like we're used to it and feeling frustrated that it's happening again. The selfishness of those people partying is beyond belief, but I guess there are a few people like that everywhere. The weather's all over the place. We've had some real Springlike days and others still cold and wet. It feels like it's getting brighter overall. 3y
CarolynM @Cathythoughts Thank you😘 How are things in Cork? 3y
Cathythoughts Thanks for asking. We are opening up … slowly. Covid is still very much in the community.. but there has been a big uptake on the vaccine here. .. 12 - 16 year olds are being offered vaccine at the moment. We are still being very cautious & careful in our bubble. Some restaurants that opened have had to temporarily close due to outbreaks. How about your area .. I think you are in lockdown at the moment ? I hope you are all ok X 3y
CarolynM @Cathythoughts Good to hear you have good uptake on the vaccine. We have been ridiculously slow with rolling it out. It has only been made available to 18 - 40s in the last couple of weeks. We're locked down for at least another 2 weeks☹️ Caution is going to be important for all of us for quite a while I think. Take care💕 3y
squirrelbrain Interesting question Carolyn! I think it‘s a bit of both - I do think we all like similar books but I think that the book is so well-written that it will engender the same reactions in most people. 3y
Centique Hi Carolyn. We‘re in lockdown too now. We moved my dad into his retirement apartment Monday and then it locked down Tuesday so the poor blighted is completely confused with all his routines upended and not knowing where to go. But the staff will help him out and he‘ll slowly figure out his apartment and routines. Luckily I delivered him new library books on Monday! 3y
CarolynM @Centique Hi Paula. I heard the news from NZ last night and thought of you. Now I hear it's the delta strain via Sydney? The NSW govt is a disgrace & our PM needs to take some responsibility too since he cheered them on while they criticised Victoria for "over-reacting" last year. Such awful timing for your Dad. It won't help him with the adjustment. I hope he'll be happy in his new apartment. Look after yourselves and keep in touch? 3y
Centique @CarolynM thank you Carolyn! We have our second vaccinations next week, he and I, so hopefully I‘ll get to see him then. 3y
Centique @CarolynM and you‘re so right about NSW under-reacting 😬 Good luck to you all too 💕 3y
LeahBergen Yay!! I‘m so glad you (and your fellow buddy readers) enjoyed this one. 👏🏻👏🏻 @squirrelbrain @BarbaraBB 3y
