#MiddleGradeMarchThroughTime

This beings in 1846 when Mexico loses the war against the United States. What is now considered central California, a ranching family faces the intrusion of Americans squatting on and chipping away at their land in the hunt for gold. This is a very short book and nothing really happens until the last 50 pages so it was slow going and I wish their was more historical content than just daily life on a ranch.

megnews That‘s really to bad. So much potential on the subject since it‘s rarely covered. 3y

I'm undecided.
I liked the fact that there was a true philosophical tone to this... however, he did seem to have a lot of extremely good fortune throughout. Maybe I'm too cynical!
Still think it's an awesome cover 😊😉

This is one off my Mum‘s bookshelf so I haven‘t read it....

It‘s funny how it doesn‘t seem to have a ‘proper‘ title, just a very long subtitle...

TheEllieMo It‘s got me intrigued.... 5y
Cinfhen It‘s a fabulous title and cover 💖🙌🏻 5y

Pickpick

If you need a nice easy read but also want a more feminist twist to the old midlife-crisis romance this is the book for you! It pretty neatly captures the colours, smells and the hubub of india from european eyes. Fun and likeable, predictable yet non-boring. Perfect to let the mind travel when the summer holidays are still too far off... 🇮🇳❤️🐯🌺 ps: the german title translation is way off and not representative!

Currently #readingatwork. Could be worse.

CoffeeAndABook Wow! That‘s some place you work!! Looks interesting. 🎎 Is the book any good? 6y
Heideschrampf @CoffeeAndABook i like it so far. It's a quick, snarky read and a very relatable first impression of a 'first visit to india as a european'. I have had some literally identical thoughts 🙈👳🏾👩🏻🇩🇪🇮🇳😍 6y
CoffeeAndABook @Heideschrampf Aha! That does sound like a fun read. I‘ve never been to India but several times to Nepal & I imagine it‘s quite similar. Maybe not AS crazy busy. 🛵🛵🛵 Hope you‘re evening at work went well & you have a relaxing weekend ahead with lots of☀️ tomorrow 😎🍹 6y
