Farewell Sidonia | Erich Hackl
post image

A book that has been waiting on my TBR for quite some time, I think I borrowed it from my Mom... for some reason I didn‘t realize that this book describes the time during the rise of the Nazi regime. It‘s about a family who takes in a foster child - Sidonie, whose parents are gypsys. The father is trying to fight the uprising powers. This can‘t end well, as the title predicts.... I wasn‘t prepared to get my heart broken by this book🙈

MayJasper These issues are so heart breaking. 6y
ju.ca.no @MayJasper yes! What horrible times... 😔 6y

7 Greeks | Guy Davenport

And now my hair is thin and white,
Grizzled the locks above my ears.
Youth's gone, and with it, all delight.
My teeth are going with the years.

What time remains is short and sweet.
Therefore I often cry and dread
Dark Tartaros where I shall meet
In dreary rooms the weeping dead.

For Hades' house is dark, and black
The downward road, the hateful way,
Unwilling and with no way back,
Downward ever, and there to stay.

- Anakreon

Texreader This is so good but so sad. 8y

14. The porches and streets of Athens were built for me as a place to live.

15. I learned from the mice how to get along: no rent, no taxes, no grocery bill.

16. Plato winces when I track dust across his rugs: he knows that I'm walking on his vanity.

17. How proud you are of not being proud, Plato says, and I reply that there is pride and pride.

18. When I die, throw me to the wolves. I'm used to it.

#TedHughes #SylviaPlath #ConniePalmen #diogenes
