I love these tiny editions! Definitely going to be adding to this collection! This was an interesting little story by Plath about a train trip that didn't have the exact destination that was expected. We see a character fighting to make her own decisions, which is familiar ground for anyone reading SP.

This was my first time reading this and knowing Sylvia‘s history made it difficult at times. I‘m glad I read it though.

This is my November #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

So glad I finally read this one. Written in the 60‘s, this gives me a lot to think about between the then and now when it comes to mental illness, love interests and relationships. Have we progressed? Enough? #Pop22 ~ a sapphic book

BarbaraBB Absolutely a must read! 2w
Cortg @BarbaraBB After marking it read in Goodreads, I noticed my daughter had it marked to-read in her account, so I texted her and left it on her desk to take back to school when she comes home next 😀 2w
squirrelbrain Such a good book, and a great choice for this prompt! 2w

Ariel: Poems | Sylvia Plath

Mehso-so

I've been avoiding reviewing Ariel because I know it is a firm favourite of many.

I read The Bell Jar and it spoke to my soul, so I expected Plath's poetry to do the same.

I imagine this collection being popular with those who like their poetry to be read aloud & who favour form & language over clarity of message.

I struggled to extract meaning from a lot of these poems. Without that connection, regretfully, they didn't get beneath my skin.

MicheleinPhilly I appreciate the loveliness of your review. 3w
RaeLovesToRead @MicheleinPhilly Aww, thank you ❤ 3w
Librariana I agree with @MicheleinPhilly 😊 Plus, sincerity is always appreciated! I realize this is historical fiction, but will you be reading 3w
Librariana Also! I want to say that I vaguely remember reading The Bell Jar... it's been a decade or two 😳 But I do recall being a teenager weirdly fascinated by her story... the whole allure of her, her life, her death, etc. I even remember owning a copy of her unabridged journals. I think I wanted to be the kind of teenage girl who loved and understood her writing... carried it around with her... but it sadly went over my head. 3w
RaeLovesToRead @Librariana Thanks! 😊💕 I'd be more likely to read her diaries than a fictionalised account of her life, but I'll probably read the original intended arrangement of Ariel and other selected poems first to see if I connect more. The imagery in her poems jumps about quite a bit, which makes it hard for me to extract meaning. I know she's a lot of people's favourite though. 3w

Have a drink today for my namesake (handle-sake?) Sylvia Plath! If you haven't yet, take an opportunity to read a poem or two. One can never go wrong with Lady Lazarus, naturally. Better yet, there are readings you can find on YouTube of Sylvia reading them herself! Cheers to a light snuffed out too soon...

“I shall unloose —
From the small jeweled
Doll he guards like a heart —

The lioness,
The shriek in the bath,
The cloak of holes“

Remembering Sylvia Plath on her birthday.

I haven‘t read this since I was in my 20s (I‘m now 57). I‘m revisiting a lot of books that I either haven‘t read in a long time, or that I enjoyed so much just a few years ago. I‘m a little all over the place with my reading right now. I can‘t seem too find anything that really sticks with me. #readingslump
