What … what … does this mean there‘s going to be another book or series… I need to know … the way this is written is addictive and I need to know if there‘s another book coming out or is out now … I‘m so glad I have more books by this author

69/100 This had the makings for a really unique first contact story, with truly alien aliens. Unfortunately, the story is bogged down by so much scientific jargon that it's hard to tell what's going on most of the time. I feel like a need a degree in biology, neurology and psychology to really grasp what is happening. There's so much talking, endless dialogues about complex scientific theories ⬇️

RamsFan1963 punctuated by brief moments of action. The idea of having a vampire as the team leader could have been fascinating, but it was wasted with little interaction between the vampire and the rest of the crew. 2 ⭐ #Read2025 5mo

4.5/5

Ceelander and Ste Etienne are forced to land on Shroud, a planet where the atmosphere is so think that no light makes it to the planets surface and life evolved to “see“ through ever louder radio waves. Escape is all but impossible, and they've attracted the attention of Shroud's many forms of life.

I couldn't put this book down. I loved everything about the journey across Shroud as well as the alien life that lives on Shroud.

"After all, Ignatius of Loyola, a soldier who had killed and whored and made a thorough mess of his soul, said you could judge prayer worthwhile simply if you could act more decently, think more clearly afterward."

I love this.

CatMS This book was on so many literary blogs as a must read when it was published. I found it for $0.99 for Kindle but haven't brought myself to read yet. 6mo

Next up in my Year of the Great Reread!! This book is copyrighted 1996, and I believe I read it in 1999 (when my first born was just a baby!), with a library book group. I'm not usually one for science fiction but I recall very much enjoying it, I'm looking forward to reading it again after so many years!

ChaoticMissAdventures I read this a couple of years ago and think about it often. A bit slow but so masterfully done the imagery is still so vivid in my brain! I hope you still enjoy it this time around. 7mo
rebcamuse I don't reread...but if I ever decide to do so --- this is on the top of the list. One of my favorite books. 4mo

In a distant future, humanity expands outward in an endless quest for resources that can be exploited, and individuals must justify their existence to merit food, oxygen and even consciousness. When an accident sends Juna and Mai to the surface of a wildly inhospitable moon targeted for resource extraction, they face a hostile environment and first contact with a life form unlike anything humanity has ever encountered. Fascinating.

Absolutely a must read! This book is wonderful and Emily Jane is a talent to watch. The best part for me was how normal problems and relationships are endearing, with spaceships (a bit of a) second thought. This is a love story of life here, and out there. Intelligent life is wherever you find it, even if it‘s a choncky cuddle cat (not a spoiler. A fact.)

This is a difficult book to review. An upstanding priest, Father Sandoz, is a linguist with suburb goes on a mission to a far away planet. Eight people go on this mission. The novel has many levels which will have the reader swelling with love and deep sadness, with joy in places and crying in other locations. If you haven‘t read it, I recommend this book it. 4.75⭐️

Soscha It‘s a beautiful but sad & outright terrifying read. 8mo

I have been seeing his books pop up lately and had this one, so I gave it a try. He does say in the forward that it was his 'practice' novel to see if he could write a novel.

It was fun, and I can see the potential for me enjoying his books, but this one did fall a bit flat for me, and I didn't really like the resolution 😅.

This one is going to the free little library, but I will try another one of his book when I get a chance.
