Wow. Funny and yet poignant and touching at times. First Contact done right!

This is John Scalzi's first "practice" novel, later revised for publication. While it has vivid characters and features Scalzi's trademark originality and wit, it also feels less polished than his later work. It's also very briefly kind of mean to Keanu Reeves (why???) A fun read for Scalzi fans, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are new to this author--it is definitely not his best.
Agent to the Stars is a ridiculous book, and it was tons of fun. Apparently, Scalzi wrote it to see if he could actually write a novel. Wil Wheaton does a great job narrating it. 1979 is my #audiowalk book. I‘m not invested so far. I like McDermid, the time period interests me, but so far it seems to be about financial crime and tax evasion, and that bores me. I hope I‘m wrong.
Www.humblebundle.com has a John Scalzi bundle going.
Unfortunately, Starter Villain is not among the books, but Kaiju Preservation Society is.

Went to the big Times Colonist book sale this weekend and read this fun novel I bought at the sale . What if space aliens 👽 looked like jello and hired a Hollywood agent to polish their image? This one is a bit dated but a lot fun. Someone saw a lot of B movies 🍿
#lmpbc #groupc here are some Sff I‘ve pulled off my shelves. This was the genre that brought me into reading so there‘s more on my shelf If you guys don‘t like these 😂
What a fun book! Always love Wil Wheaton as narrator❤️
#acrossApril April 11: arrival
Aliens arrived on earth . . . and hired an agent.
March wrap up. I read 26 books, but didn't really help my TBR pile much judging by this photo!
Missing Volumes 4 to 16 in Lumberjanes (Scribd), Cold-Forged Flame (ebook), A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World (audio), 2 Star Wars comics (Kindle Unlimited), and Lock In (audio).
Lumberjanes was the perfect comfort read for this crazy time! I need to buy them one day.
I strongly disliked Heart of Iron.

Still working, but I did manage to read 3 Volumes of Lumberjanes, completing my read through. I also read 2 Volumes of the 2015 Star Wars. On audio, I finished 2 books this week! Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi and A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn.
What do you do if you‘re a blobby alien who is sent to initiate contact with humans? You get an agent! Funny and touching and goofy, this is sci-fi that will satisfy geeks and those not into the genre, too.
4/5 stars
This is what I'm talking about! One of my main criteria now for fiction/pleasure reading is FUN! I don't want to be traumatized. I don't need it to be terribly thought-provoking (though I don't want to be bored, either). I just need to be entertained. This was silly fun.
I have two other Scalzi books (one short) in my personal library. Now I'm really looking forward to reading them!
I love Wil Wheaton as a narrator.
This is Scalzi‘s first novel & it doesn‘t disappoint. Loved every minute of it & finished it on the flight from Norfolk to DFW.
Another entertaining sci-fi story by Scalzi! I first thought the aliens were the same ones as in The Androids Dream. How many aliens communicate through smell 🤔
#lmpbc #GroupV here are the 5 I‘ve come up with. Let me know what you think, I haven‘t read any of them nor do I own any so I‘m not married to one yet. Please notE The Descent has nothing to do with the movie apparently.
This was a fun story. Not necessarily as good as others I've read (Fuzzy Nation, for instance) but still a good romp of a novel. Definitely recommend.

John Scalzi signing! Tagged the book that I first read by him. I didn't have a hard copy for him to sign though. #Bubonicon
John Scalzi always makes me laugh. Not many authors can get away with creating Jellyfish Goop looking Aliens. They need a good PR Hollywood agent to smooth the waters before they present themselves to the world of humans. Silly? Yes, but this author does it well.
This was a interesting story, I enjoyed it. Even though the concept seemed ridiculous at first I fell into and is anthor Scalzi favorite. Wil Wheaton does a great job if you get this on audiobook.
This is the book I recommend to people just getting started in the scifi genre. It's not techno-babble heavy and is both really funny and really deep at the same time. An overall fantastic story told with scalzi's signature witty style, this is a book I'm going to keep with me for a long time.
This book was so much fun. Hollywood agent is hired to represent a race of unattractive (and stinky) but peaceful aliens who want to befriend Earth. Heartwarming in all the right places, but funny enough not to be sickly-sweet, moving at times and ultimately very uplifting. Read if you feel down!
Not a big science fiction reader, but this story was charming and funny!
Ahh this book is hilarious and endearing! Scalzi wins again 👍🏻👽
There were some pretty hokey moments in this one, but it was fun.
Bought this from Audible on a bit of a whim - I love Scalzi and Wil Wheaton could narrate the phone book and I'd be sold. It's great so far and a perfect book to listen to while walking.
John Scalzi writes the best kind of science fiction - hilariously thought-provoking and surprisingly poignant. Take that and pair with his frequent audiobook narrator, Wil Wheaton, and you've got one hell of a good time.
