Talk about a killer first line! All I could think was "What does her dead aunt have to do with this?" I was so intrigued!

And why was this a fantastic last word? Because our MC, Alex, believes her father is dead. So. This is a spoiler, and I've marked it as such. But does it make me NEED the second book in the series immediately?! Heck yes it does!

Zoraida killing it again. Read her books!

This is a little different, since THE REFUGEES is a collection of short stories, but it still shows the intrigue of the first story. So interesting! As for the last word, I like it because it states exactly what the author wants from everyone - to see the world from his point of view - as a refugee.

This is the type of first line that immediately draws me in. I want to know more - who was this person? How does he or she relate to the story, narrator, or writer? Intriguing, no?

You'll notice I've already finished the book and I highlighted the whole last sentence. But even the last word shows my point - better. As in, we have to do better. We do.

It's Wednesday again, which means it's time to talk about lines and words!

I love the double meaning of the first line of this book. Sure, Danny is talking about standing in line at a store, but she's also talking about herself. She's trapped in a boy's body, and it's taking to long to express herself. I love that.

As for the last word? I don't know what it means yet. But I can't wait to find out.

The first line of this book doesn't give a lot away, other than that the main character believes that miracles happen. I like that about Ruth. And, in typical Jodi Picoult fashion, I can't make heads or tails of the last word. I'm hoping this means I'll be surprised by the ending. We will see, won't we!

The first line of this book is about as intriguing as you can get. It sets the tone for the story and gives us a peek at the narrator - we already know he's on the outside looking in, or at least that's what he wants us to believe. I'm hooked.

As for the last word - lives. Plural. I'm hoping that means the ending shows a future for both twins - but I don't know yet!

On Wednesdays, I'll be talking first lines and last words. Now, Phoebe Robinson is a comedian, and her first line is so funny and so unique to her that I immediately knew I'd love the book. Sometimes first lines aren't so convincing. 😂

But what I love even more is her last word here. PROUD. Because that's what she is and what she should be.
