I don't say this often, but I HATED this book! I HATED everything about it. I HATED the 50s American white male exceptionalism attitude. I HATED that each female character was introduced by describing her breast size and how her legs and ass looks in a skirt/dress. I HATED the pig of a main character, who used his two divorces as an excuse to treat women like dirt, to use them then toss them aside when he was bored. Continued in comments ⬇️⬇️

RamsFan1963 Bova has written some great novels, but this is a racist, sexist mess. I can't think of one good thing to say about it. 4mo
CampbellTaraL Oof. Between your reaction and the book's description... This one doesn't stand a chance on Litsy, that's for sure. 4mo
Lizpixie Wow. Guess I‘ll be avoiding this one like the plague(or like covid😋) 4mo

Redemption Ark | Alastair Reynolds

Reynolds can weave a complex story with far future imaginings. Advances in medicine, and longevity, genetic uplift of non-humans (in this case monkeys and pigs), and alien tech no one can really figure out - either how it works, or what it's for.

I really enjoyed this story about the crew of a sanitation ship tasked with collecting debris in space. It also a story about climate change, fossil fuels, the environment & the environmental impact of space travel. Definite Expanse vibes in that the story also deals with the realities of living in space/space travel—debris, gravity, radiation sickness, oxygen supply, the time it takes to travel, all sorts of things. I‘ll definitely read more.

I read this as the 3rd in the series in a Revelation Space omnibus on the kindle but it‘s more a direct follow-up to the 1st book. As always, the ideas are superb and the book zips along at warp factor 9 for the first 75%. Then the breaks go on and the denouement we are promised doesn‘t materialise. I feel like the last part of the book was changed to give us a build up to an epilogue that serves as a prelude to the next book. A great read though.

Mehso-so

This was my first read by Alastair Reynolds, so I was not sure what to expect. I really enjoyed the beginning. The idea of a group of people trying to hide from extinction from another group called Wolves, and then coming in contact with another group of refugees that might directed the Wolves to the original group. The story kind of falls apart when a character has two identities. Not sure if I will be reading the rest of this series.

"Behold the wedding gun."

Ah, romance.

catsuit_mango :) I read it but I don't remember the wedding gun :D 8mo
Suet624 What the heck??? 8mo
Traci1 @catsuit_mango @Suet624 it was sort of a cross between a gun and a syringe. That they used to "shoot" the DNA of one spouse into the forehead? of the other. I think. This book is confusing. Not sure if wedding syringe is better than wedding gun, but ?‍♀️. 8mo
