panI‘m glad I never read this to my kids. Besides the themes of violence, misogyny and racism, the writing is just bad. Repetitive as a picture book, it had none of the charm or humor. I try to judge books based on the author‘s era and can forgive outmoded attitudes if the prose is beautiful and there are other values to be gained, but I found no such compensations here. #unpopularipinion #GAR #hopeitdoesntwin
Graywacke Read this in high school, and have no memory of prose. I definitely didn‘t note the misogyny and racism. (And probably found the violence fascinating). Mostly I remember thinking it was a cool story about a smart dog. Ha! 6y
