Absurd in a way that leaves me grinning.
Fave of this volume was of course dogs + mobsters episode.
Other highlights include:
Food that transports via sense memory people back to moments in their past that wreak emotional devastation in the most entertaining way possible
The flair with which house husband and nerd team up for the pursuit of prizes
Poor Masa repeatedly ending up that worse for wear thanks to the power couple's good intentions

“…most people will still opt for privacy & autonomy over technical efficiency & community interest.”

While obvious, this blew my mind. Is this perhaps why we are so lonely? Privacy & autonomy are optimized in isolation. But that is not where we are humans find most happiness & contentment.

“Democracy dies in darkness” also comes to mind when optimizing for privacy & the U.S‘s current political issues.

jewright My husband works with a man from Afganistán, and this is what he hates about America. He doesn‘t understand why we don‘t live in a big house with family. 2y
Reggie @jewright have you ever read World War Z? It‘s probably the best zombie book you could ever read. But in the 3rd part where they‘re rebuilding the world. Everyone who has a house, gets families assigned to let them live with them. There is a single man who has, I think, 2 families put with him and he talks about he didn‘t know what he was missing. How lonely he was and how we have all this space and it‘s just empty. I think about that a lot. 2y
ManyWordsLater @Reggie I LOVE THAT! ❤️💕❤️ 2y

My high school history teacher talked about this briefly in a class 20 years ago. I‘m excited to learn more.

Loved this volume! Had a lot of funny parts invovling more ex-yakuza members, and it spilled with the essence the town's people have potential to be Yakuza members. We get a peak into Tatsu and Masa's past. Also, the bonus chapter felt down to earth--relatable to pet lovers and families with pets. #manga
