Nadia Hashimi has taken me back to Afghanistan with her story! I‘m rooting for the women unjustly imprisoned and hoping Zeba isn‘t actually the one who put an axe in her husband‘s head.

I was having trouble hanging in, but am glad I did. At about 30% of the way through, something changed. The writing got better. The pace picked up. Now, I‘m being pulled along by the story itself and the desire to get answers to my questions.

I love that the author includes an element of Afghan culture that that is only spoken of in whispers and resorted to when the majority faith has failed to produce a child from a barren womb or deliver someone from jail or make the father of a girl‘s baby marry her: jadu—magic.

This book will definitely be in my classroom because it was allow the children to hear a personal nonfiction about young Japanese woman who faced hardships in the concentration camps and how she got to where she is today. This book will leave a powerful impact on the students.

Uprooted was written by Albert Marrin in 2016. This book was an indescribable biography written about the American Government taking innocent citizens and placing them into concentration camps based off of their ancestry. It describes the horror that the citizens went through and how they struggled to survive. This was a terrific story and I will definitely share this with my classroom.

#NFNov Book 6 finished. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
#TIL Before I read this book, I didn't realize Malala was already fighting for Girls/Woman to have an education, at such a young age. I remember hearing that a young girl was shot for attending school but that's all I knew.

Nadia was living in a remote village in Iraq when ISIS invaded. Her story of survival and witnessing genocide is heartbreaking. I learnt so much from this book about the different religions & ethnicities that make up Iraq and it‘s recent history. A thought proving read that has really affected me. #nfnov
