pickWhew. Okay. I disliked all the characters and I loved all the writing. She writes real people, with all their flaws and realities, which made me dislike pretty much all of them. But the story is gripping, and if you can stick with it, it‘s a really good book.

pickI absolutely enjoyed this book! I am so glad I decided to read this even after disliking the author's other book 'L.A Weather' that I read in 2024.
I found this story to be enticing right from the opening and in between the different timelines, Escandon kept my interest with both the story and the characterizations of not just Libertad but all of the characters.

pickYay! My first read for the year. The blurb which says it‘s “rife with overtones of Dostoyevsky,..” had me picking this up. It seems to be partly based on a true story from letters Highsmith exchanged with a prison inmate. A suspenseful, psychologically disturbing story with an unlikeable protagonist I can‘t help having sympathy for, in fact I was rooting for him. The building up of suspense brings an unexpected ending that leaves me unsettled.
