Blueberry Boys | Vanessa North
post image

August 2020 Reads. Lots of romance and queer representation this month, and I'm never mad at that! 10/12 center on and/or were written by queer folks. Vanessa North snuck into my heart--I reluctantly started with Roller Girl, backtracked through the Lake Lovelace series, and then couldn't resist these sweet Blueberry Boys. Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet also gave me a taste for some more fantasy stories, which I'll need to satiate soon! 📚

Memoirs of a Triangle | Christine Twigg

I think the author sells herself short with this title - it's more of a quadrangle than a triangle. No, wait ... yes, it's a pentagon! Hell, everyone fancies/loves/shags everyone else - man, woman or (possibly)dog - in this dollop of ridiculousness. The initial romantic/sexual encounter of the 3 corners of the titular triangle is so weird, titillating rather than erotic and, like everything else in this book, totally & utterly unbelievable.

It may be 25 to midnight after a long and somewhat taxing week, but after bailing on my last book I feel a little adrift. So here goes with this one. Hoping it will anchor me nicely ... read a few lacklustre reviews so maybe I'm shooting myself in the foot. With thanks to #netgalley for this book.

It's silly but I felt myself almost tearing up at this story! I feel like so many kids could relate to what Sophie is experiencing and feeling. I think that this book would be so great for any child but it could be especially helpful for children who need a little extra behavioral help.

Pickpick

This picture book is about a girl named Sophie, and her feelings get really hurt! Her classmates poke fun at her artwork and it hurts Sophie's feelings a lot. I think that this story does a great job with illustrations. The colors reflect how Sophie is feeling and I think that is great for children. They are learning what feelings are which and how to cope with those feelings and this book can really help with that.
